MemberIv been using YM for several years with nearly no issues or problems up until sometime over a month ago. I was attempting to uninstall YM 9.xx to do a fresh reinstall of a recently released version but for whatever reason i had interrupted the uninstall process. Now i cant remember if i had restarted the uninstall again or if i just decided to just try and install the newer vers over whatever was left of the previous vers, but ever since this “brainiac” maneuver, i have not been able to get “ANY” vers of YM (8.xx/9.xx) installed back onto my machine. Doesnt matter if its a web-guided install from the site or a self-install straight from my hdd.
The web-guided install gets about 1/3 or so into the install then i get the dreaded pop-up saying “Yahoo Messenger has encountered a problem and needs to close. Sorry for the..blah blah.”
The self-install gives the same message but it pops up as soon as i hit the last button that initiates the actual install process.
Yahell Tech Support was a complete waste of time even after sending them at least 4 different log files each of seperate failed install attempts.
Anyone wanna take a crack at it?

ParticipantDoes Yahoo Messenger still show in Add/Remove programs? (Even if it won’t run, if it’s there we can get finish getting rid of it easily.)

Memberpatndoris;237105 wrote:Does Yahoo Messenger still show in Add/Remove programs? (Even if it won’t run, if it’s there we can get finish getting rid of it easily.)Naww it hasnt been seen as an installed app since this all started.
Do you or anyone on this site or anywhere for that matter have any knowledge/experience with interpreting the “suite” install logs that yahoo had me send them?
I just refuse to accept that my one and only real solution for this bull-sh!t is gonna end up being a reformat. I “maybe” and i do mean “maybe” could deal with an xp repair install but I still dont even wanna have to go that route either.
But I have been curious about trying something that I honestly dont even know would be a viable route to even consider. Let me just try and run my lil hair-brained idea by you guys.
Basicly I was thinking about installing a security app such as “sandboxie” and trying to install YM into its virtual enviroment and see what happens. I figured that if it did end up installing and working ok inside sandboxie, then that would at least give those with much more knowledge and experience with using sandboxie help give some insight as to what the specific differences are as far as installing progs inside sandboxie vs outside, thus possibly helping shed some light on where exactly the installer is getting snagged up. And who knows possibly the solution to cold fusion and maybe even unlocking the whole 2012 thing.
HAHAA laime. It was just a thought.
And I quote Col. Sal Tigh..

ParticipantWe’ll have to wait for some of the YH gurus to weigh in on this one I’m afraid.

Memberright on
In the mean time iv been considering a multi-protocol mess..any in particular that would give the most YM like experience and features?
Those “so-called” techs over at Yahell keep tryin to push that laime-4ss Web Mess of theirs..and as far as im concerned that thing is like usin one of the stone-age 6.xx vers..if not worse..totally Coleco!

ParticipantI like Digsby for multi-client. It’s come a long way in the last year or so. A word of caution though – they have more toolbars and crap they try to get you to install than I’ve seen on any other program I’ve ever used. I’d recommend you don’t install any of the extra junk.

MemberDigsby is good, as patndoris mentioned. Miranda, Trillian and Pidgin are also good choices for multi-protocol IM on Windows.
The caveat with most third-party IM programs is that they don’t do everything the native app does. For instance, Trillian supposedly does video chat, but IMHO it doesn’t do it nearly as well as the native Yahoo client.
So you might start by stating what features you need/want.
Also, the sandbox idea is pretty smart. It would be a good way of isolating the install just to see if you can get it working. If you can get it working within the sandbox, I wouldn’t give up on fixing the default install. It might mean some file and registry clean up to remove all traces of the original install in order for you to successfully complete a fresh install.
Keep us posted whatever you do. I’m curious!

MemberThnx for the heads-up bout digsby.
As far as the sandboxie idea, the only reason it hasnt become anything more than an idea yet is due to the fact that i have no knowledge what-so-ever about the prog aside from its name to be honest with you. I sometimes like to peep pc security forums and just noticed that amongst the hardcore security geeks that sandboxie seemed to be the favorite of progs in that category. lol
But now im thinking that there are probably other progs that would be better suited for what i was thinking of using sandboxie for. Something that monitors nearly every single aspect of the OS when an install or uninstall is takeing place, records everything that takes place during the process, hi-lights changes that were made, etc. And that sounds like it would be more straight forward with not much if any kind of a learning curve involved.
Im gonna check more into it.And as far as what kind of features i would like a multi-protocol to have, i think file shareing and conversation logging are key. But i really just want my Yahell back. Iv been using my MSN/WLM to chat with any new Yahoo friends since the “incident”. But theres just no way in hell im gonna manually add every single person from my YM list onto MSN/WLM list. And thats one of the few nice things about most multi-protocols, that ****zu is automatic. But they only transfer only the most basic info, just whats needed to be able to communicate, nothing more.
Anyway..enough about that. It was almost starting to sound like an episode of “the Whiners” (SNL) in here.
I think im gonna head over to the train station and have the clerk tap out a few telegraphs for me, get word out about my recent misfortune, how iv fallen on hard times.

ParticipantI created a brute force yahoo remover called YRemover
It will clean your system of Yahoo Messenger
Your installer should work after that, reboot before you try to let yremover finish its job.
You can get it at This thread here
Or at my site at ShadowCorp Community

MemberDo NOT reformat! There are plenty of IM programs out there. I hear good things about Google Talk, and I use Skype.
After I uninstalled Yahell v. 9 to switch back to v. 8, I found over 300 Yahoo entries still in the Windows registry. I cleaned them out before installing 8. Try the Y Remover tool, unless you know how to edit the registry yourself. It probably does the same thing. Often older versions of programs are better than the new bloated ones. New bugs replace old bugs. You can get older versions of many free programs at OldVersion.com.

MemberIt worked.there were settings to turning down the mike sensitivity. Thanks a lot.
Each version of Yahoo Messl has its own bugs, but so does Skype Yuch.
