MemberHi Everyone
I am new on here but I thought you guys might be able to help.
I have a webcam and am running MSN 6.0. on XP. Whenever I select ‘tools/Audio/Video Tuning Wizard…’ I get the error message: “We are unable to run the Audio/Video Tuning Wizard at this time.”
Needless to say that I haven’t had a webcam conversation yet!
Anyone know why I would be getting this? I have drawn a complete blank so far.
Any help would be greatly appreciated
Thanks in advance
Nige 🙂

Memberwhat happens when you just try to turn on your cam without running the wizard first?

MemberHi
When I click on “Tools/Web Camera Settings..” I can see that the cam is working fine. However when I click on the Webcam icon during a conversation I get the “unable to run the Audio/Video Tuning Wizard” message.
I don’t know whether that answers your question, but I have tried many combinations.

MemberOkay, so the cam works, at least we know that 🙂
can you get the webcam working when you use Windows Messenger (it’s pre-installed with Windows XP and can run at the same time as MSN Messenger, just not using the same account)? Also, have you tried uninstalling and then reinstalling MSN Messenger?

MemberHI Roland
I have just removed and reinstalled MSN 6.0 but the problem is the same. Where is this Wizard? Should it come with MSN or is a Microsoft utility? What could be preventing it from running?
Just for info Yahoo Messenger works fine with the cam, but I’d still like to get the bottom of this MSN problem.
With regards to Windows Messenger – I removed that last night thinking that somehow it may be causing some contention.
Thanks for taking an interest in this one

MemberSo you can’t run the Audio/Video Tuning Wizard in the Tools menu, uninstalling/reinstalling MSN Messenger didn’t help, and you can’t try Windows Messenger, but you know it works in Yahoo Messenger.
The only thing I can think of right now is to reboot your computer. Don’t start any programs other than MSN Messenger after Windows has restarted and then immediately try to run the Adio/Video Tuning Wizard. Perhaps the webcam is in use in another application when you try to run the wizard?

MemberI’ve tried the rebooting and starting MSN Messenger first, still the same. I do have an unusual soundcard configuration, so if that is what is stopping the Audio/Visual Tuning Wizard from running then I am probably stuffed.

MemberI have a Largan Chameleon XP digital camera. I am running Windows XP and am using Windows Messenger 5.0 (MSN). When I run tools – Audio tuning wizard, I’m okay until it asks me to choose the type of camera that I’m using. Once I hit next, I can see myself on my pc. I hit next again, and I get kicked out of messenger all together. If I don’t audio tune, the person that I am speaking to cannot see me, but I can see them on the screen.
I went to the Largan website, and they said to download MSN Messenger 6.0. When we both downloaded MSN Messenger 6.0, we could see each other, but, the video & audio kept freezing up. It doesn’t run as smoothly as 5.0 for some reason.1. Does anyone else out there have this camera? If so, what messenger service do you use if you are not using MSN 5.0?
2. Does anyone else experience constant freezing up while using MSN 6.0? What can be done to fix it?October 27, 2003 at 5:50 pm #55591scarred dreams
MemberWas anyone able to resolve this issue?
i am running msn messenger 6.1, windows xp, creative labs live soundcard.
Whenever i try and click the webcam in msn messenger it says “we are unable to run the Audio/video tunning wizard at this time”.
If i open control panel>sounds and audio devices click on voices tab, and push “test hardware” it gives me two errors
1) “an error occured during directplay voice setup. The error code is 0x80040154.”
2) “windows cannot execute DvpSetup.exe, use add/remove programs control panel to install.”
I looked at the ms knowledge base, all they said was to adjust the hardware excelerator one notch to the right. By default, mine is all the way right as it can go.
The webcam works, i am able to use the logitech software to activate it.
I’ve noticed alot of other ppl are having similar problems on a lot of different forums. However i havent been able to find anyone that has been able to fix this.
I have tried another sound card, removed all sound cards, disabling the sound cards in device manager, running directx9 after each sound card was removed, and again when i installed them. i’ve un-installed msn messenger 6, re-installed it, sworn at it few times, threated the computer with a smash-ohmeter (aka a hammer), downloaded all the updates. Nothing seems to be working.
The two errors i am recievin from the control panel and from msn 6.1 are some how linked however im not able to fix it or find anyone else that has succesfully figured this out

MemberI was having the same trouble. audio/video wizard wasn’t working. I am running messenger 6.1 on XP. I also have a TV tuner card, I disabled it in the devive manager and the camera works fine now. Now the question is how to get both running together. I hope this helps someone.

MemberMe too….
I’m no expert but to me it seems it’s audio setup related…
I tried disabling a couple of audio devices (i have 2 of them)
first I disabled my RME-hammerfall (proaudio stuff) drivers but that didn’t do the trick, I still could not get the wizard to wake up…
then I disable the onboard ac97 audio and voila… I can start the wizard…
I tried updating the ac97 drivers but xp says I allready have the latest version of these.
Then I enable the Hammerfall drivers again and I can still activate the wizard so I think it has something to do with the ac97 drivers
(realtek ac97 audio)Any suggestions ?
