MemberI’m using the latest yahoo messenger ver 7.0.0.426. When i select the option to share my display image and click ok my display image is still not shown to the other person or even to me in the chat window. When i go back to the preferences to check my settings i see that the option is back to ‘don’t share a display image’. I tried it several times but the setting just doesn’t get saved.
Then later i try the yahoo avatars as my display image option and this time it gets saved, so I again revert back to the custom display image option and the samething happens again that the setting isn’t saved and its back to don’t share option.
So conclusion is the yahoo avatar option setting gets saved but the custom display image option setting doesn’t, anyone else having this problem? any fixes?..
Thanks.Using Win XP SP2, firewall enabled and admuncher running in the background (even tried disabling it but didn’t help)

MemberI had this problem recently. I am sorry to say that I could find no solution other than going to http://www.messenger.yahoo.com and re-installing it. It has been working great since then, no problems. Maybe you (or someone else on here) can find another, better, solution, but this is all I could do. Sorry I couldn’t help more!

Memberi tried that too but its still the same.. the only exception to this problem is that the setting to show my avatar gets saved but the setting to display a custom image doesn’t..

MemberHey there, Thriller ….
Have you searched the forum here for this subject ?
There is LOTS of discussion of this problem, to which your valuable contribution might contribute (for example, HERE) – but it’s hard to keep track of when you post a new separate thread, about exactly the same subject.By the way, I wish you success with this ongoing (minor!?) frustration for lots of YM users. 🙂

KeymasterI had the same problem then one day my friend said ..oh now I see ur picture…it just decided out of the blue to work, then it stuck on that pic and I couldn’t change it…and once again, when not expected it worked. I don’t know what happened or how it worked but I’m kinda scared now to try and change it again.

ParticipantThere’s nothing to do with the registry because when you select to share or not to share picture a packet is sent to Yahoo server and your yahoo messenger reflects the change only after it receives the acknowledge packet from yahoo. I also monitor both way packets when I change my picture, the change may be delayed if yahoo server is too busy to retransmit the new picture or no change if yahoo server replies with a http packet saying “error 999 not able to process at this time”.

MemberHi, I had that problem too, but used different pictures and found one that worked. So i am thinking it has to do with the size of the picture you use. Make it as small as possible. Hope that helps!

ParticipantIt could be a coincidence, the selected pic is automatically resized, converted to png format and stored in “…profilesMy Icons” folder by yahoo messenger before being sent to yahoo filetransfer server.
I recognise so far that the problem is due to 2 factors: yahoo filetransfer server overload and packet loss.
