MemberMy AIM account used to be an AOL account, recently cancelled. I have used it solely as IM for some time now, and didn’t seee the point in paying AOL an insane amount of money … anyhow… I had it set up as an IM account, as well, for over two years before it was cancelled.
I have tried logging in to my account, and for over a week, have gotten this message:
Error logging into AIM: Unknown code 17
I get this message in Trillian, AIM, and QuickBuddy. Just for old times sake, I tried to use my account to log in to AOL, and was told that I had a valid username and password, but I am not a member.
Has anyone else had experience with this? Any advice/suggestions?

ParticipantI’ve seen tis response before:
Actually if you have an AOL account and use the same SN for AIM all you have to do is change the email address. They wont lock you out of AIM. Just AOL. You’ll never be able to get into AOL again cause well you canceled it. But as long as AIM doesn’t share the same email address as your AOL account (IE Arbitar69 is your AOL screen name and your email is arbitar69.at.aol.com then your Arbitar69 AIM screen name cant have arbitar69.at.aol.com as your email address. If it does then it’ll get locked out)

MemberI just had a rather irate conversation with AOL customer service. Actually, it was AOL billing. Sarah told me that I can’t have my screen name back and that I am permanently locked out. Well, until they cycle out my screen name, which takes anywhere from 6 months to two years. I said a word or two that she told me I wasn’t allowed to say on the phone. I can say whatever I want. I know their conversations are recorded. I hope they fix this glitch in the future. I should have changed the e-mail address before – I thought I had, but, I don’t remember. I must not have. I’m still locked out. She was a real pain to deal with.
Her main point was, I can’t have it back, and there’s nothing I can do about it. I just have to wait two years. Oh, and I can’t have my buddy list, either.
