Okay, here are some graphics with the suggestions:
Left has black text, top has land shadow, bottom has no land shadow, right has coloured words.
February 26, 2007 at 1:59 am #158454PhilipModeratorWhen I first started this post, I didn’t imagine that it would create this kind of buzz with our staff. I was wrong! I think it’s fantastic how you’ve all reacted and given your ideas and thoughts. Ryan (Mr. Photoshop) should be commended for the images he has contributed. Ultimately, the final decision will lie in Jeff’s hands as he, uh, is the Site Owner. But thanks to all of you for all the suggestions. Keep them coming!

I suppose it’d be possible with some DHTML and CSS, but it wouldn’t be easy.I don’t see an issue with reloading the image. “Ideally” really, if it was a compressed enough image for dial users, it wouldn’t be an issue. HOWEVER, if it would use too much resource to reload the image maybe that would be unideal? Perhaps have it update every 10 or 15 minutes?
February 26, 2007 at 7:21 am #158423DavidParticipantAn extra 30k+ per page load for dial up users, last I remember, is quite a bit for something that is such a minute detail?
It’s not a resource issue really, the image would be rendered each time the user count changes, but I see little reason to modify the image when there are other solutions to overlaying text on the image and using less bandwidth. Wouldn’t you agree? As I see it now, BBB is a pretty ‘large’ website, and it might be worthwhile to work on that.
March 22, 2007 at 1:46 am #158455PhilipModeratorSo uh, is the BBB logo going to be updated, guys?
March 22, 2007 at 5:15 am #158426SpikeMemberI like it how it is, personally, if anything I think we should update it when we update the navigation and/or site, which is in the works 😉
March 22, 2007 at 5:39 am #158418detn8rParticipantPhilip, in other words, don’t hold you breath.
March 23, 2007 at 12:27 am #158443MrEggsaladParticipantOh, I wouldn’t change it until we change the look of the site. Roll out new logo with new look of course!
June 23, 2007 at 9:59 pm #158411Jeff HesterKeymasterRyan, what program did you use to create your globes? Can you send me an editable version, preferably in Photoshop?

He uses Photoshop. Sorry to talk for him, but he is in NYC right now on a mission trip!
Edit:
Being the stalker that I am… I found the PSDs for them. I don’t think he’d mind too much if I posted them, what do you think?June 25, 2007 at 3:19 am #158420detn8rParticipantI think you forgot to post them 😉
June 25, 2007 at 4:06 am #158433DrBroccoliParticipantNo, I wanted answer before I posted them =D. If anyone thinks I shouldn’t, then I won’t.
June 25, 2007 at 5:27 am #158424DavidParticipantI can’t see that he’d have a problem with it.
June 25, 2007 at 9:19 am #158427SpikeMemberYeah, go ahead and post them.
