Memberhello all, I am new to this forum and hoping to solve a problem if I can. I have recently upgraded to XP Proffessional. I used to have 98SE. for some wierd reason I can’t get my web cam (logitech quick cam) to work. I go to start a cam session and I get a dark cam window then my comp freezes. I have tried Yahoo and I get a message saying I am behind a firewall and can’t use the web cam service. but when I was on 98 I had no such problems and all my AV and firewall software is the same. I have reinstalled the drivers for the cam numerous times and still no luck. If I try to use the Logitech software I get an error saying the cam is being used by another program???? what the heck does that mean? The only program that works for a few minutes then freezes is Eyeball chat but none of my family use it and it will eventually freeze up anyway. Does anyone have any tips or fixes. I have a new niece that I am missong out on seeing, the rest of my family are scattered all over and they all meeting on the web cams. Help please.

KeymasterThe lockups seem to indicate a driver problem. Some, but not all, drivers written for Win98 will work with XP. Check Logitech’s webcam products page and see if they have updated XP drivers for your camera.

MemberI have Win Xp Home, so I don’t know if the steps I took will be exactly the same but you have to locate the “Event Viewer”. Try using the Run command, paste this %SystemRoot%system32eventvwr.msc /s and hit enter. If that does not work try going to Control Panel>Performance and Maintenance>Administrative Tools>Event Viewer or something similar. Anyway, once in the Event Viewer check under the Application or System pages and look for any information, errors or warnings relevant to your current problem. Try the link for the Help and Support Center and/or report your findings back in this topic.

MemberThanks I will try that aswell as double check and make sure XP’s firewall is shut off. One other error I have gotten is something along the lines of “the cam is in use by another program…’ I can’t quite remember. I will reply agian should I run into problems or if the above tips help at all. Again I tried the cam in EYEBall chat and it ran for a few seconds and then froze and when I tried to restart eyeball I couldn’t I had to reboot. Wierd. 🙂

Memberok I tired the “%SystemRoot%system32eventvwr.msc /s” and I am not sure what it is supposed to do. I can read all the event logs and alot of the Appliation Hang errors have to do with Ypager.exe. Those are the times I tired to run my web cam and it wouldn’t work. I didn’t see anyerrors for when I tried it under msn messenger. I also double checked XP firewall and it is disabled. I am currently looking for the ‘how to’ add yahoo to the trusted sites in ZA pro and how to open ports in ZA, maybe that will help. I will also try reinstalling the drivers once agian for the cam.
