Cant you just write your own messenger program that doesnt require port access
May 21, 2003 at 5:44 pm #65471masterofITMemberQuote:quote:Originally posted by urxlnc😮 My mistake, I had got confused about the port for MSN Messenger, it is 1863, which I had hardly remembered.
Well comming back to the problem, well yeah I have used HTTP-Tunnel, there is another program silimar to it, Socks2http, Socks2HTTP is an agent converting SOCKS v.5 requests into HTTP requests and tunneling them through HTTP proxy. SOCKS allows programs to traverse firewalls on any port number and is used by many popular programs, like Morpheus, MSN Messenger, ICQ, AOL IM, FTP, Telnet, and many others. Many companies restrict firewall traversals only to HTTP requests, disabling SOCKS proxy. Socks2HTTP provides a lightweight SOCKS server for the SOCKS client, performing its connection through an HTTP proxy.
Both HTTP-Tunnel and Socks2HTTP are sharewares, the free version of HTTP-Tunnel restricts the user to bandwidth of 1.5kbps, and the paid versions bandwidth is maximum 30kbps, which means frequent disconnection.
Now in the Messenger you can use HTTP proxy (if proxy network) at port 80, and MSN can solve this problem if the problem doesn’t solve then, I found a solution, most universities, schools and offices, to avoid all access to MSN Messenger they clear the registry of the MSN server, to put it back
1. In the registry, navigate to: HKURSoftwareMicrosoftMessengerService
2. Find the item named Server: if it shows Null;0.0.0.0:0 then change this value to messenger.hotmail.com;64.4.13.50:1863 or messenger.hotmail.com;207.46.104.20:1863Another way of blocking the MSN Messenger is Administrator Puts a line in hosts file on the pc which tells the MSN Messenger to look for the MSN server on localloopback. 127.0.0.0 gateway.messenger.hotmail.com is the server address to use, if its done MSN never signs in.
The Administrator creates an access rule to block the IP range when a user tries to sign in. They blocked 64.4.13.170- 64.4.13.190 as an access rule, and the Messenger Never signs in even if you use any HTTP Proxy, or port, we can use other IP address supported by MSN to do this in the registry use 207.46.104.20, this is the only IP address that I know and I use this IP address.
If the Administrator did block msn i sure do think they did set some security policy if your using Windows NT and Windows 2000 or Windows XP and you wont be aboul to change the registry file to set back the value that urxlnc told you.
May 22, 2003 at 9:06 pm #65473GalazMemberHey, Hello everybody,.. I just don’t get it,.. I’m working behind a firewall but everything in the proxy seems to be right, the problem here is that in some of the computers using win Xp the msn messenger works really good actually no matter wich OS they are using, it works but for some reason several computers don’t do a thing with the messenger,.. never signs in… I made a test connecting the ISP directly to my switch (working without the proxy for a while) and it works, at this point I can assume that I just cannot pass the firewall but how come some computers work and some others don’t?….
Anyone would tell how can I do to have all computers using msn messenger working with the proxy?..
thanx..May 23, 2003 at 7:41 pm #65472GalazMemberHey, hi everyone, I’m glad to tell that my problem has been fixed,.. I just did what urxlnc.. these two steps:
1. In the registry, navigate to: HKURSoftwareMicrosoftMessengerService… or click find and write the text…messenger.hotmail.com… then when you see server, add the Ip and port….
2. Find the item named Server: if it shows Null;0.0.0.0:0 then change this value to messenger.hotmail.com;64.4.13.50:1863 or messenger.hotmail.com;207.46.104.20:1863….
and this works,… waht I noticed is that in computers using Win Me or 2000 this value is assigned by default, so they don’t need it.
well, I must say thanks to urxlnc!!…May 27, 2003 at 4:25 pm #65474carlos_79Memberjinny is ur gateway to msn (maybe)

tell me if it worksJune 3, 2003 at 5:06 pm #65475Technics1MemberThe only option that worked to me is using httport and setting up in MSN Options/Connections a SOCKS4 Proxy Server with IP 127.0.0.1 and Port 1080. Here is the screenshot: http://www.htthost.com/screenshots/msnproxy.jpg

July 11, 2003 at 3:27 pm #65478mariano774Memberbla bla bla, try one of these web based msn:
http://www.odigo.org/download/
(click on the launch link)or
http://www.shhrm.org/newmsn/#
(much better one)while ne of these will get u online and feel in touch with ur pals, if u want the real msn working (which i really suggest), and u cant set http tunneling, ur problem might be the authentication method of ur proxy, the work around for that, is to get the ‘NTLM Authorization Proxy Server’ at http://apserver.sourceforge.net/ (u will need the script base languague too, phyton, which u can download from a link in that page)
I hope this works for u , it worked for me, and trust me they all work
ne doubts on how to set up proxy server or http tunnelin, just post them here, ill help yagreets,
mar774July 17, 2003 at 9:51 am #65479SpYMemberHi,
I could use some help with the NTLM Auth proxy server…http seems to be working fine but i still can’t login with msn messenger. If i active the debugmode it just keeps given me auth failed messages…What should i use for username and password? Are you not using the proxy cause you dont have that data?

July 25, 2003 at 10:23 pm #65480AristocriticParticipantI have a problem i need to know the ports MSN messanger uses to have audio conversations and to send files because my router keeps blocking them so i need to enter them in to allow it.
July 30, 2003 at 8:46 pm #65477mariano774Memberspy,
u have to run the NTLM Auth proxy on ur machine, u have to change the config file to point it to ur proxy with valid user and password with internet access
once u have it running , tell MSN to use http proxy at localhost, port 5865 (unless u changed the port), u dont need user validadtion in msn, NTLM does thathope that helps
mar774August 18, 2003 at 4:07 pm #65481BagsMemberHeres a little prob for ya.
I can get Yahoo mess to work via proxy/firewall but not much else.
Tryed http/socks convert but still nothing seems the socks works but wont contact MSN.
What is it about Yahoo that allows it to work, driving me mad!
August 19, 2003 at 8:50 pm #65476mariano774Membertry using http://www.htthost.com/httport3snf1.exe
if u can run that (it has a test to make sure it does) just point MSN to socks 5 proxy at localhost:1080
now, if the test fails, try reading the logs to see if the user validation is working, that could be the problem, in that case u need the NTLM proxy thinghope it helps
