I think we need to brainstorm some possible user infraction categories, seeing as the default ones sort of don’t apply to everyday posting at BBB. Ideas?
Let’s start with the current (default) infractions:
- Spammed Advertisements 1 10 Days
- Insulted Other Member(s) 1 10 Days
- Signature Rule Violation 1 10 Days
- Inappropriate Language 1 10 Days
These seem pretty appropriate to me, though I’m not 100% sure about the “points” and the duration of the infraction.
What would you add or remove from this list?
What does a warning/non-warning even do? (Red being infraction and yellow being warning) Are they banned if they get a red card, and yellow is just a warning?
Nooo… they don’t get banned from a red card. They are both basic warnings, but if they get enough points they start to loose privileges and it may (or may not?) lead to being banned. That’s what I got out of it anyway.
Curious though — can multiple staff give an infraction for the same thing, or is it one infraction per post?
Also, I don’t think a signature rule violation is worthy of an infraction. 99% of people with a signature are in violation, and it just being there seems completely useless.
Spammed advertisements are also sort of useless for infractions. If the guy is a spammer, why waste time with infractions? Just banning the idiots seem more realistic. On the other hand, if they post often with their site (like the dick head and his proxy (50 pounds per half year) then, that is different. Perhaps rewording it to like Spammed promotional link, self plugs etc. Inappropriate language is also something not worthy of being there. If they want to drop the F bomb, than give an infraction for insulting members. We don’t moderate language, so if the forum filter catches it, we don’t need to.
I also think that infractions and warnings should last one month; I think this period of time is excellent for deterring members from even starting.
I would go on and agree with det mostly. I think we need categories for spamming members (who aren’t just spambots), as well as rude members who are not respectful. But as far as language… I mean, I thought all the bad words were censored? If they are there’s no need to have a card for that.
If anyone else has any other ideas for utilizing this forum tool, speak up! 🙂
Well, with the language we have to decide what to count as “bad”. I know that “damn” is not blocked, yet a lot of others are..
damn, ass, hell, bitch, bastard, ****, ****, **** (test of words..it goes d, a, h, b, b, f, s, c). I think most of that is blocked, so I’m not sure how much that catergory is needed? Heh, after doing a preview I see a lot of that was allowed, well, I mean we can always change the filters, so I’m still not sure that we need that, plus I normally don’t see people using extreme language on the forums.Bringing this back up… How about an infraction for people (who are not first time posters) that double-post (And everyone knows there are right way of double posting Ex: Bump up topics, or it’s been days later and you need to update info, etc…) But i mean just people who want to up their post count or do things like here.
Because after testing, you can still give infractions on posts then delete them. (The infraction will still count.) So it serves as a good warning while doing our job of deleting.

Hmm, I’m not sure how much this is needed. I mean, I don’t see much of this, and a whole category for a fairly uncommon thing, I just don’t see it as necessary. I feel in this case, a simple PM to the member is fine, besides, I don’t see much of this anyways, although I am not knee-deep in the Yahoo, MSN, or even AIM section either 😉
I think when saying Spammers you’re talking posting bots or web crawlers, so banning them is the first move.
As to users spamming, i think the link should be checked by the active mod to see if it is a Clean non spam, non popup site, nothing malicious and that it’s legit.
If it is not then it may warrant a card and move/delete..etc
Bringing this back up once again, Jeff can you expand the definition of the Spammed Adverstisements to read: Spammed Ads/Bad Links or something along those lines like det mentioned: Spammed promotional link, self plugs etc. Reason for this, i had someone link something bad, which gave me a virus! Fun i know… But aside from going to automatic ban, thinking this wasn’t maybe their intention, guess i wanna put use to the infraction system.
