MemberHi, I just bought the Netgear Router WGR614 and have tried to download files from buddies on AIM but can’t. It gives me the “firewall” error, I can connect though if I connect directly without the router.
Any suggestions on what to do? I would like to be able to use the router when online. Thx

MemberIn your firewall configuration… If you know how to get to it… Look for the ports and be sure you have your port 80 tcp/udp protocols open. otherwise use your router configurations options. This way you can send and recieve peer to peer data on the http protocol.

MemberHey, thanks for the quick reply, I have updated the port forwarding for AIM to 5190 both on the router and the preference for file sharing and transfers, its still not working… now I have ZA Pro enabled and the ROuter SPI Firewall enabled, could that be part of the problem?

Very likely. Fortunately, it’s easy to test. Disable one, then retest. If it works, you know where the problem lies. If not, disable the other as well. If that works, then re-enable the first firewall and test again.
On another note, why on earth are you running TWO firewalls?

MemberI know, I know.. unfortunately I had subscribed to Zone Alarm Pro b4 I bought the router, so I don’t have much of a choice. I have disabled ZA Pro, and have tried doing it only from the Router, updated the Port forwarding to 5190 and have made the same setup on My AOL Profile. Still not working. Anything else it could be?

MemberI think you go to Prefs on AIM then click Direct IM and then Click Firewall then select the second option.
