I’ve been running it almost every day, but haven’t seen any of those problems (yet!). Yes, it is beta…. so be sure to report your problems to Yahoo using their beta help form.

August 10, 2002 at 5:07 pm #101250detn8rParticipantFor yahoo help on the beta go here: http://help.yahoo.com/help/us/mesg/beta
Oh and btw…..
When the beta becomes a full release, is the version number going to change from 5.5, to 6.0?Oh and does someone know a trick to remove the ad banner in IM Chat?

When the beta becomes a full release, is the version number going to change from 5.5, to 6.0?No. Usually they only increment the first digit when there are major changes (i.e. 4.x to 5.x). The second digit represents additional functionality and or bug fixes, but a minor release (i.e. 5.1 to 5.5). The third one I have no clue about, and I’ve worked on numerous software development teams. Must be something unique to their development team. But the last four digits represent the build number. That number changes a lot, and will definitely change for the final release. So the final release will be something like 5,5,0,xxxx. Got it?

It’s time for a changeAugust 13, 2002 at 4:57 pm #101259stonelady_darleneMemberI am new to BigBlueBall. I saw so many praises for Beta messenger. I hate it! It shows my nickname instead of who i really am, shows others nick names instead of who they are(the names I have come to know and love) and it confuses the heck out of me. I uninstalled and then reinstalled the old messenger, but i lost cam use all together. I had to go back and reinstall Beta, then install old messenger over it to view cams again. I am running windows xp, so there shouldnt have been a problem with it. I like all the new animated emoticons, but everything else gave me trouble. I couldnt log into chats alot, i had to restart this thing alot, and like someone else said, i couldnt use the enter key to send text. I do disk cleanup rather often(at least daily) to keep the puter running smoothly, and with Beta it seems I have to do it every time i log out. the tip on the emoticons not showing up is a good one tho. I’ll have to pass that on to a friend that has that problem. I’m computer illiterate, and i trudge on by learning from my mistakes. I love this place!

August 14, 2002 at 11:17 am #101253adreanne2001ParticipantI am a having problems now.. When i close Yahoo! It sometimes shows I am still on. Also, as of late, I am unable to connect to Yahoo! And a few times I was unable to reply to an IM.
Maybe this is my comp?? Does anyone else have these problems? 🙂
August 15, 2002 at 5:15 am #101248detn8rParticipantYour not alone on that one…. just reciently was having some problems where when I’m viewinf a cam, it would totaly freeze Y! and the cam would say its offline for awhile or something, and it wasn’t.. (trust me it wasn’t) and I would be able to type things to others, but they wouldn’t recieve them. Sew…… in the end, I would have to re-start Y!, and it seemed to fix the problems I was having… Just remember fellow impatient Y! users, the full version should be out soon, (I hope!!) and we should’t be having any of these probs!!

September 5, 2002 at 1:47 am #101243AnnaParticipantYou’re right Sonoslap,
It doesn’t exist…… anymore.
It did at one time and was only released with a very old beta version of Yahoo a while back (5.0 I believe). It hasn’t been added into any other version since. The ghost was pretty useless anyways considering it had no actual key commands.Windaphoner
