MemberI am running Windows 2000 Pro on my computer at work and when I try to run the Yahoo! Messenger I’m getting a message that reads: “You have been signed off because you signed in on a different computer or device”.
I know people are probably thinking I should be more careful with my password and have it reset, but that is not the problem. The problem I am having is with the windows profile with a specific windows user in this particular computer.
Here are some tests I’ve been performing:
– I log in to the local network with my user and try to sign in to Yahoo! Messenger: FAIL, I get the “You have been signed off…” message.
– I logged in on another computer in the same network with my local network user and then sign in to Yahoo! Messenger with my yahoo user : SUCCESS.
– Another coworked logs in with his local network user on my computer and then I use his account to sign in to yahoo messenger: SUCCESS.Some of the things I’ve done to try to correct the problem are:
– Uninstall Yahoo! Messenger, manually remove EVERY entry in the registry, delete EVERY file and library in the C: drive. Then ran Ad-Aware SE Personal (with the latest definitions), ran Spybot S&D, ran Norton Utilities Windoctor. Then I re-installed Yahoo! Messenger and I get the exact same message: “You have been signed off…”.-The local network administrator wiped out my previous profile by renaming my profile with a .old extension so next time I log in I get an entire different profile and same user. And I get the same message.
I think somewhere in Windows the information is stored (other than the profile) and it attaches the Yahoo! ID to the local network user and it’s preventing me to sign in to Yahoo! Messenger.
I’ve tried almost EVERYTHING, I ran out of ideas and I am getting ready to ask the helpdesk to re-image my computer, but I don’t know how I am going to justify re-imaging my computer to run Yahoo! Messenger, when this is not an esssential tool that I need to do my job… *sigh* :-((
Are there any Windows gurus who can help me solve my problem?

MemberSo that’s what that is! I thought it was a problem with Cameno, when MSN Messenger kept telling me that. . . Weird. Oh, and. . .unfortunately, no. I can’t help you. But this does explain one thing to me, so thank you for that.

MemberHey DarkLight,
Is your network using a proxy server? that might be the problem, as well as if your network contains any server or devices that might caches your connection. I’m not 100% sure what is the exact thing that might have cause the problem but I’m sure it is not local files-related nor profiles.

MemberYes, My network uses a proxy server with a proxy script… but I don’t think the proxy server is preventing me to connect because I can connect in the same network with a different computer. Any ideas? Thanks!

MemberHave you tried logging in using that same computer and account again immediately after you get that message? It sounds like Yahoo did not think you had logged off the last time the account was used.
