Earlier I had the same issue and had to restart, and just a few minutes ago it happened instantly, just it started using so much CPU it had to restart, although perhaps my comp just froze as it happened instantly. I don’t know.
*sighs* I can’t reformat my comp I just don’t have the resources. I have a website to administrate I can’t have my comp go down the drain.
Did you try what I suggested in my previous post #14 (uninstalling and reinstalling Adobe Flash Player and/or your graphic drivers)?
How much RAM do you have? Can you swap it out with another stick of RAM? Defective RAM can also cause your CPU to go haywire.
I’ll try that when I figure out how to.
Also I have no other sticks of RAM and I have 512 KB of RAM.
make sure your not running an avg scan when the spike occurs i’ve known avg to lag the whole system on a scan and yes it registers as the other programs atleast on the 6 computers i run it on
For what it’s worth, I had two clients come to me about this high CPU usage problem, even after running extensive antivirus and antispyware tests. After some troubleshooting and experimenting, it turned out that the culprit causing this was Windows Update. Turning off Automatic Updates in Control Panel solved the high CPU usage problem. The downside is updates have to be done manually 🙁
As yet, I can’t find a fix for it on the web yet. If anyone can help, that would be much appreciated.
