MemberHello all,
I have the problem with AIM 5.5 where the Video button is greyed out and cannot be selected. I noticed some posting earlier in the forums but there was no resolution I could see. I have installed it so I can have video conversations with a friend using iChat on the Mac but so far no use. We did get the video working via Yahoo messenger but picture is slow and the audio function didn’t work. Camera and audio seem to be picked up in the preferences but still no video button.
Can anyone help?
Thanks

MemberI thought it was always because the other person didn’t have 5.5 or a compatable IM with the video chat.

MemberYou could be right. I have just checked with my mate and he’s only running version 2.0 of iChat and the apple site says you need version 2.1 ublic beta to video with AIM 5.5.
He’s updating now so will keep you all posted. (I’m sure you can hardly wait!)

MemberWell it’s almost working now. I can see and here him but he can’t see me. Audio is going through ok both ways. My PC doesn’t seem to be sending out much data. Is there a reason why AIM wouldn’t be sending any video? I can see myself in the MyCamera window.

ParticipantMy video button is also greyed out. Is there a setting I need to change to make it available in IM 5.5? An IM message would be MUCH appreciated!
Thanks,
Aaric

Memberboth of you need 5.5.3595 and XP for it to work. Hover your mouse over the person in your buddy list and look at capabilities. if it doesnt say “video chat” (or whatever), it will be greyed out. does this solve your problem aaric?

ParticipantThanks, Camster. Some of the buddies in my list have Video listed in their capabilities and some do not. You’re exactly right. But now I’m left with: “How does my buddy set things such that that capability exists?” Similarly, how do I make sure that I have that capability.
Thanks a heap!

Memberif you have AIM version 5.5.3595 or higher and have windows XP you can use the video feature. if you dont have both of these things, the video feature will not work.
(I’m not sure if 5.5.3595 is the cut-off or not, someone correct me if its a version before that)August 24, 2004 at 11:50 pm #48293Tropical
MemberBut to clear everything up into a simple paragraph:
Both of you need at least a 5.5 version and Windows XP to use Video Chat.
(In their capabilities it will say Live Video) -
