MemberI’ve just insialled AOL 5.5 and bought a webcam. I’m having trouble using the video session as the video button is greyed out and is therefor stopping me from doing anything.
The help says that it is possible to have a video session even if one person does not have a camera. All that happens is that they won’t be able to see the other person.
I’m running Win XP and my mate is running Win 2K. Is that a problem? Should it matter?
Why is the video buton greyed out?HEEEEEEELP!!!!

Member…… just to add that I’ve just run the whole ‘video/audio tuning’ thing and can see the camera via AIM. The sound/mic is working fine too, so I don’t know why I can’t click on video. Any thoughts?

MemberI was having problems too. Do you have a firewall such as ZoneAlarm. I found that when I disabled zonealarm everything was peachy, except for the fact that my firewall was off. I am posting in a few to find out if any knows the ports off hand that AOL is using for video. If not I’ll just siff it out and let you know tomorrow. Now it is a Thurs. night and time to jet.
peace

MemberI dan’t have a firewall installed at the moment (I know I should!) so this should not affect it.
Do both useres need xp then? It doesn’t say anywhere that that’s the case. Surely that defeats the point of having a video chat facility. Is this the case with other cross platform video conferences such as iChat or yahoo chat?January 27, 2005 at 3:48 am #49063David Paulson
MemberI have the same problem, can’t establish video connection (button greyed out). I was able to pull it off a couple of times, but webcam shut down after a several seconds (10-30 secs). This is what i have decided, to hell with AIM, switch and use Yahoo or MSN…cams work regardless of OS, cams at one end or both, easy install, no errors, no time outs….convince your buddies to switch to “real” IM, after all it’s free, and the others work SOOO much better.
