Hello: Does anyone have vista, if so can you use the pc to pc feature in yahoo messenger 8.1.0.421
We can only IM with it, we cannot get the pc to pc to work with vista (it worked ok with xp)
One email from yahoo said it was Unavailable using vista at this time and another email said it should work!
Anyone using vista with this? ThanksFebruary 19, 2008 at 3:28 pm #166911mfenechMemberIf you mean the PC-PC calling/Yahoo Phone feature, it works just fine with Vista.
February 23, 2008 at 1:58 pm #166904tomsbbbMemberYes, its the pc to pc talk feature, we cannot get it to work (just IM)
What version of yahoo messenger are you using with your Vista? Also, maybe tell us where you downloaded it from? ThanksFebruary 23, 2008 at 11:42 pm #166913Doris KenneyParticipantDid you remember to do call setup? For Voice Conference check out here.
I have Vista and with the codec installed have no issues, and 2 other people I know are fine as well. Which version of Vista do you have? And what type of computer do you have? Acer has e-security which has a few issues.

Please read the following if this is the case,
How do I configure my firewall to make Yahoo! Messenger PC-to-PC calls work? – Yahoo! Messenger
March 2, 2008 at 12:23 pm #166906tomsbbbMemberok, the pc to pc works on ALL messengers BUT Yahoo and we are not using a proxy.
As far as I can see running the grc ports tests all ports are Stealthed.
Yahoo messenger always worked before with this test being the same!
The firewall does not seem to be the problem as far as we can see!
But just incase how do we open up one of these ports to make sure?>>>Yahoo! Messenger with Voice will work if any one of these TCP ports are open:
5061
443

I use PC-PC on Vista all the time with no issues at all. Never had a single problem with that part of it. But if you forget to do call setup it won’t work.
March 2, 2008 at 8:50 pm #166905tomsbbbMemberCall setup works perfectly on both pc’s and as I mentioned all other messengers work ok except yahoo pc to pc. Thanks
March 3, 2008 at 1:19 pm #166915Doris KenneyParticipantI’m using version 8.1.0.421 right now. However, one of my contacts downloaded beta 9.0 at one point and we were both on Vista and still able to talk one on one (although 9.0 did have some odd issues and he downgraded to 8.1 again.)
You can grab a clean copy of YH at Filehippo or on the Yahoo Messenger website.
If you’re both on Vista, please make sure you’ve allowed YH completely through the Windows Firewall or if you’re using another firewall either hardware or software you need to be sure the Windows Firewall has been disabled so they don’t conflict.
I’d also recommend trying to launch YH by right clicking the icon and choosing “Run as Administrator” and seeing if that helps at all. If you have User Account Control (UAC) running on one or both of the machines it can make things terribly difficult to get things to run properly. Unless you really need it for some reason, I’d disable UAC completely.
I still find 8.1.0.421 is far more stable on Vista and would suggest trying it instead of the beta 9.0 for Vista. Let me know if any of this helps you out. If not, can you give a little more detail as to exactly what does or doesn’t happen when you try to call? (ex: does it ring but you can’t answer, does it shutdown YH, etc.) it would be helpful. Good luck and we’ll wait to hear from you.

Sorry it took me so long to get back you, I have some health issues that had to be addressed.
I will be on the pc that is giving us trouble this weekend and hope to get back to you after I check out all you mentioned. Thank You, TomMarch 13, 2008 at 10:37 pm #166916Doris KenneyParticipantTomsbbb I’m sorry you’ve not been well. We’ll look forward to hearing how it’s going.
I’ll be off and on YH much of the weekend, if you’d like we can try and troubleshoot it. I’m on Vista, and have another contact who will be on in the evenings (eastern standard time) who also uses Vista, and is great at troubleshooting voice issues (especially if it means he gets the chance to speak with someone new using a mic!)
You can PM me and let me know if you wish to try to arrange this. My YH ID is shown here. I’d be glad to try and help you out.

You solved it for us, when you mentioned, Run yahoo as Administrator, that did the trick. It seems pc to pc will not work on this vista unless you do it that way! Thank You Very Much, TomMarch 14, 2008 at 9:44 pm #166917Doris KenneyParticipantSo glad you’re all fixed!! Enjoy your voice chats and let me know if you have any further problems with it.
March 15, 2008 at 2:43 am #166910imported_Ven0mMemberYea, I’ll have to make another tutorial soon about Yahoo! Messenger and Windows Vista. One would think Yahoo would make it where it automatically gains an elevation of permissions on Vista.
The way to make it always run as an administrator is to right click on the Yahoo! Messenger desktop shortcut, go to Properties, then go to the Compatibility tab and select the bottom checkbox, “Run this program as an administrator”.
