Hello Everyone, I am on a friends brand new pc with vista home premium, I am trying to set it up for him. I tried to download the newest yahoo messenger (dial up) and as it was downloading you could see the progression scroll bar, but at the top of the screen it keep osilating back and forth from “Installing” to “installing Not responding” and it did this all the way up to 100% download, but still would not complete totally! So after 3 hours I had to END TASK.
I thought maybe it was installed anyway, but it was no where to be found! Is there some kind of security thing on these Vista’s that can cause this, or any ideas on what? Thanks

Sounds like there might have been connection problems. If you can, download the file and run it locally. Many times, install programs try to run directly, in which case the downloaded file is actually stored in your browser’s cache. You might be able to find it there, but Vista will try it’s best to keep you from running anything directly from the cache.
My recommendation, ditch the dial-up and get a proper broadband connection! Trust me, your friend will thank you!

You can disable UAC completely, and activate the administrator account to use (with full permissions).
Try downloading the full Yahoo! Messenger installer for the version you’re tying to get (you can find the links in the sticky topics).

I personally have mine turned off permanently. And I agree completely with Fanatic: get a broadband connection if you can.

I click on retry but no good.
He does not have DSL in his neighborhood yet and cant afford comcast at this time
I will look in this suggestion>> Windows Vista’s User Account Control, along with the lack of administrator permissions, actually can cause problems for people trying to install and use programs on a Vista computer.I will also turn off the user accounts.
However I will not be back on my friends pc until the Holiday week, he’s in another state. Mean while I would appreciate any and all idea’s in the future for this problem and I can check them all out when I get back on his pc, Thank You all. Tom
