Since about 5 weeks ago (when I first went to YM8 Beta) I find about 90% of the time I try to open a voice-enabled conference and invite a friend, I get “Voice Chat could not be started”.
I’m not the only one for whom this occurs. Friends PKOrisa and Loopy have both found the same, I think both SINCE they upgraded to version 8 – then today BlueCarnation, who’s deliberately NOT installed 8, but is still on 7.5, found the same thing.
I think HatedJealousy also had this problem recently, at least once. When this occurs, we cannot INITIATE a voice chat, but if the OTHER person does the initial invite, then there’s no problem accepting, and talking (then once IN, no problem inviting other people in too!).
I’m now on latest YM8 (build 682) and still have this problem, but as it also occurs for someone on 7.5 I suggest it’s NOT to do with version, as such, but perhaps some kind of recent glitch at Yahoo’s server end.
(None of my friends had EVER seen this UNTIL about a month ago).
So – a POLL please, only for those who’ve TRIED initiating voice chats (“Invite to Conference”, voice-enabled) with a number of different friends, and at least 6 different times over the last month.
Regardless of what YM version you’re on, I guess. 😉I’m really interested to know how widespread this glitch is.
Thank you. 🙂July 29, 2006 at 1:35 pm #149291pkorisaMemberYou posted your note at 4″30 am EST and at 9:33 AM EST I saw it and voted. To my surprise, I saw “Occasional” had 100%. When I looked a deeper, i found that I was the FIRST one to vote — in 5 hours of posting time!!!! That’s a surprise for this forum!!!!!
July 29, 2006 at 2:39 pm #149284Jeff HesterKeymasterdid you uninstall the old messenger before you installed the new messenger 8?
Voice conference works good for me.July 29, 2006 at 4:24 pm #149287NessaParticipantCchris78 wrote:Voice conference works good for me.If it works good for you, why’d you vote that it gives you that chat error “Often”?
*will give better response to this later, as well as vote, but for now, i’m going back to bed, i’m extremely sleepy, fell asleep till 5 something…*
*goes on to bed*

Unfortunately i cannot remove your name from showing up there, but as mentioned your vote no longer counts towards the total. Also you cannot vote again, sorry!

It’s never occurred again with anyone even after the upgrade to the non-beta version 8, so i’m unsure on which to vote on, since it’s not occassionally, since it only happened once, and it’s not never, since it happened once. So here i am debating upon myself which to choose. 😛
I don’t really have more of a say in this since that’s the only time i’ve had it occur on me when i initiated a voice conference, but i will be on the look out to see if it ever occurs again.
Also i know, i’m a very very very bad person for double posting. *scolds myself* I shall promise not to try to do that again, but i had to put my input in a separate post other than the one responding about voting wrong in the poll.
So now *goes back to debating on what my vote should be*
July 30, 2006 at 1:37 am #149286DermotParticipantyahoo changed the voice chat route on conferences as it’s different to room voice chat.
there were many exploits for this form of voice chatting as you didn’t even need an id or password to use it. (this is no longer the case)
since the full release this problem has mostly been rectified but this also means builds before 8.0 full you will have problems the odd time.
August 1, 2006 at 12:59 am #149290Eagle_KiwiMemberI THINK I’ve found a clear and definite pattern, after much testing with a number of various friends !
If you try to initiate voice conference with someone ACROSS VERSIONS (i.e. 7 to 8, or 8 to 7) it says “cannot start…” – but with someone on the same version it works just fine.
I shall – with huge relief – assume this to be true… unless/until someone may disprove it! 😉
{{LATER}} Oops. *I*’ve found exceptions, sooo… in conjunction with your info Dermot, I suggest now that 8 to 8 will ALWAYS work, but 8 to 7 or vice versa works SOMETIMES, but not others – and it appears to have little to do with who the actual users are, but perhaps more just times – someTIMES it works, sometimes not.
