The Fish
MemberI am having problems setting up the Messenger to enable Voice Chat.
The problem I am having is that I can hear the other person but they cannot hear me. I am using a Windows XP system with Norton Internet Security. I have tried to follow the advice that both offer but I am getting nowhere. If anyone else has had this problem I would appreciate any assistance.
Thanks

Does it say “Connection Established” in the bottom left of the chat window? Also if your behind a router it might not work. Norton will have no effect on it, I have it and mine will work if I was not behind a Netgear router.

Participanter… is your mic on? are your audio settings set up correctly?

MemberTo Shifter.
I have run the Audio setup with no probs.

It does say connection established. However I can only get that if the other person initiates the voice chat. If I try the connection fails. Please pardon my ignorance but what is a router?

If you don’t know what a router is then you probably don’t have one. Quite simply, a router is a way to share your high speed internet with others in the house. Its just a box that other computers can plug in to and use the internet. Your friend might have one. Also did your friend run the audio setup wizard? if you get the “Connection Established” and still cannot hear one another then one of you has a Microphone problem. Need to check the mic, you should have a audio recorder on your computer, if you have XP it will be in Programs, Accessories, Entertainment. Record it and see if it works. Also the voice conversations I have had, I had the volume WAY UP to hear the other person, maybe your volume is not loud enough. Hopes this helps.
