When I try to use voice on Yahoo Messenger, I get Voice Error “Trouble communicating with voice server. Attempting to reconnect”.
My setup is Windows XP using Linksys Cable Modem, with Linksys Router BEFW11S4 Ver. 2, and Linksys Wireless Adapter WUSB11 Ver. 2.6. Yahoo Messenger is 5,6,0,1347. Preferences is set on “No proxies”. Everything works great except EXCEPT voice. I am thinking maybe it has something to do with the router, since it has a built-in firewall, but do not know enough to even check it out.
Would appreciate any suggestions or tips which would resolve this problem. Thanks.
I just wrote this page yesterday,
http://www.freddys-utilities.co.uk/yconnect.php
which may be of help to yourself. It’s possible you may need port triggering set up on the Yahoo! Voice Chat. At the bottom under “Routers and Port triggering” there is a linkout to a site called webhazard with some graphical examples on how to set up on the linksys router if you get stuck.
Basically, you will need to set up port triggering, for outgoing 5000-5010 incoming 5000-5010. The most likely way to get into your router settings is to enter IP 192.168.1.1 in IE and press enter, your username and password should be entered, by default that will be just admin for password. Click the advanced settings, forwarding, then port triggering. Set up as i said above, description can just be yahoo!voice or something.
Thanks, freddy – think that helped – appreciate your input and advice.
