Whos got this virus? McAffe and other websites say it’s a huge threat
http://us.mcafee.com/virusInfo/default.asp?id=mydoom stop it spreadingJanuary 27, 2004 at 6:30 pm #85390shifterMemberI recieved about 5 email messages this morning with the bodies containing one of the following:
-
The message cannot be represented in 7-bit ASCII encoding and has been sent as a binary attachment.
The message contains Unicode characters and has been sent as a binary attachment.
Mail transaction failed. Partial message is available.Didn’t look at all like what I usually get when a message is returned, so I deleted them all without a second thought. About 10 seconds later a co-worker informed me of this “huge threatening virus that was announced on the radio”. As long as you always use common sense when viewing your email attachment’s, you shall be safe.
January 28, 2004 at 8:34 pm #85399The guruMemberand as long as you got a good up to date virus scanner
January 28, 2004 at 11:20 pm #85386Jeff HesterKeymasterBear in mind that this virus works much like other email viruses in that if you are infected, it will resend itself to everyone on your address list. It will also use names in your address list in the “From” field, so it makes it more difficult for the casual email user to determine where the virus is really coming from.
I have Norton Antivirus running on all of my computers, including email scanning. I also have it configured to automatically check for updated virus definitions. In spite of all this, when I heard about this latest attack, I forced an updated just to be sure.

January 29, 2004 at 1:06 am #85388detn8rParticipantpfffffffft…. only 3? Try 95!
February 3, 2004 at 12:02 am #85400TrabMemberi get about 35 of those per hour… anything with an attactment in the .zip format i’m now just deleting… how it works is that it takes ppl who are infected, looks at there address book, and makes a 2 AND from…so the person who “sent” it might not be infected nessicarilly…anywayz just be careful and dont open .zip files ETC without scanning…
February 3, 2004 at 1:34 am #85389Grim ReaperMemberGood news is is that this virus is supposed to stop spreading sometime today.
February 3, 2004 at 7:36 pm #85401GeForceJedi44MemberThe b variant (Mydoom.b) failed it’s DoS (Denial of Service) payload on Microsoft’s Web site today due to it being less widespread than the original worm.
February 16, 2004 at 8:46 pm #85393FimusMemberGrrrr… my school’s network got the myDoom virus, and a teacher blamed it on me because I installed a game called “DooM” in my server directory. It’s like saying horse radish is made of horse droppings err…
February 16, 2004 at 8:53 pm #85387detn8rParticipantYeah, ya gotta love the server administrators eh. A few people got blammed at my school laste year for the network going down cause they had a few .exe’s in their drive. (MSN, and i think Yahoo Messenger) They have to figure out what caused the problem, why not target the kids, and get them suspended?
February 16, 2004 at 9:03 pm #85397Red DevilMemberIs it me or do i.c.t. teachers at all schools not have a clue about computers? we were blamed for messing up the computers graphics because we had quake 2 installed on the network. a lot of student’s usernames were deleted, even though we had nothing to do with the problem.
February 16, 2004 at 11:07 pm #85394rafaelemtMemberMany teachers who are appointed as school’s system administrators really don’t have any real training in that matter. They are just a teacher who know a little about computers and then when it comes to dealing with a treath or a problem like a virus they just blame every thing they find they don’t know what it is or every student who has a little more knowledge than they have. This happens very often in our school district.

February 17, 2004 at 4:41 am #85392FimusMemberIt’s only that one teacher though, not the network admin. I won’t even get started on all the other stupidities though with that teacher… it would be too much 🙂
February 17, 2004 at 4:58 am #85395lazyturboMemberuhh….Mydoom virus?…who still uses e-mail?:)…isn’t this site all about instant messaging?
February 17, 2004 at 7:43 pm #85391FimusMemberWell, this is the Off Topic section, so we’re talking about stupidities with viruses. 🙂
