Warner Music Group today announced a deal that provides ringtones from it’s vast music library to U.S. Skype customers.
You’ll be able to download musical ringtones based on songs from a wide range of Warner Music artists, including Madonna and Green Day, for about US$1.80 per ringtone (about one Euro).
“We are excited that more than 70 million Skype users around the world will now have the ability to enjoy content from Warner Music Group artists,” Alex Zubillaga, an executive vice president at Warner Music, said in a statement.
Skype is expected to start offering the ring tones in the next month, with a “Featured Artist” section in it’s online store. Madonna is expected to be the first artist featured.
You can already purchase custom ringtones at the Skype Store for one Euro, but most are not clipped from well-known artists.
What’s wrong with this picture?
You purchase and download a ringtone, but it only works with Skype. You cannot also use it on your cell phone. If I want it on my cell phone, I have to purchase it again? Is it any wonder that the traditional music industry struggles when they continually screw the consumer?
