KeymasterIt amazes me that people have nothing better to do, but I actually had some moron try to fool me into giving him (her?) my AIM password. The lesson is, if someone sends you an instant message asking you for your password, do not give it to them! No company will ask you for your IM password, ever! Not Microsoft, not AOL, not Yahoo.
It is simply too easy for someone to create a free username that “looks” official. For the record, here’s what I got:
AimRp99: Hello, I am an America Online Inc. Representitive. I am informing you as well as several hundred more AOL Members. Unfortunatly, our SAPF(System Account Password Files) have been over ridden by one of our employees. Fortunatly, we have dealt with this employee, but we have lost your Password Information. Because we are concerned about our members, we have asked that you please respond with your password, otherwise your current account might be deleted. Please reply with your Password information. Thank you for your cooperation, and enjoy America Online. (Also, have you heard about the NEW AOL, America Online 7.0? Go to Keyword UPGRADE for more information!
Looks pretty official, right? Well, it’s just some idiot goofing around, trying to find someone even more stupid to fall for their trick. They even threw in a little promotional plug to make it seem even more legitimate. DO NOT BE DECEIVED! Never give out your password to someone else via IM, period.
And you’d think this moron would at least spell corrrectly. Sheesh!

Yeah, yeah, I know kinda stupid but hey buddy……. just send the code to me now n head office dont ever need to know about this stuff-up.

MemberHey all I’m new,
Anyways if you don’t want people to send you stuff like this, just block messages from anyone not on your buddy list. I’m sure you all know this but maybe you just forgot

MemberI don’t think anything like that would happen to the point that they would be asking for you password…. I’m sure that AOL would do something else (maybe sending an email telling you to re-register under the same name) if anything like that would happen…. But it’s sad that people do that just cause they have nothing else to do…
Wir versteh euch nicht
