This is an oldie, but a REAL goody!
I fell for a similar phishing trick 2 years back, and almost lost my whole Yahoo account. :crying:
BEWARE of any “geocities“-based site, no matter HOW much it LOOKS like a genuine Yahoo! page, that asks for your Y! Id/Password!!!
(And remember, Yahoo probably asks you that a dozen times a week, and this page will LOOK identical to the usual – EXCEPT that the URL is the only giveaway).
I just received an IM from a good friend in Brazil (though I haven’t seen him online for a few weeks).
For safety I’ve added XXX into it – imagine it without that….
http://br.geocities.comxxx/phoottos_friiendss/ hi look my photos new is beautiful
I was surprised, as I didn’t know he had his own webpage, AND his English is usually a little better than that, but anyway I was interested to see his pictures, so I clicked.
Then I very nearly gave my details, until the warning bells went off in some dark recess of my mind. 😉
Oldy but a goody…
Just an FYI if you are running an older version of IE, they can change the address bar to reflect photos.yahoo.com.
Here is Yahoo!’s official write up on SCAM/PHISHING attacks.
