If I IM with somene not on my buddylist, the webcam icon is clickable. As soon as I add them to my buddylist, I can no longer click it. This happens even when the other person has WinXP.

May 22, 2004 at 2:02 pm #79366IMQueenMemberI posted this in the AIM forum, didn’t I?
May 22, 2004 at 3:08 pm #79369f0rbezMemberhaha man thats funny. anyway, do you know for sure whether or not these buddies have a webcam? my first guess is that AIM doesnt realize they dont have a webcam (or dont have that feature) until you add them to your list and it checks their capabilities. doesnt solve your problem but I dont think theres anything you can do about it.
May 22, 2004 at 3:13 pm #79365IMQueenMemberI don’t believe they do have webcams, but that shouldn’t stop me from sending my webcam image to them. In MSNM it doesn’t matter if the other person has a cam. They can still receive my webcam image. Isn’t AIM that smart?
May 22, 2004 at 3:17 pm #79368f0rbezMemberyeah your right I didnt think about that.

May 22, 2004 at 3:29 pm #79364IMQueenMemberNP, but just remember everyone posts about their messenger of choice in the right forum.
May 22, 2004 at 7:38 pm #79362IceMemberI actually get the same thing with ppl on my buddy list before I type a message or they have typed anything. when I first click their name and call up the message box it gives me the option to start cam and then wehen we talk it isnt available so I assume its smart enough to know if they have the new version of aim once you start to talk.
May 22, 2004 at 7:43 pm #79363IMQueenMemberI have a buddy who has AIM 5.5 and WinXP. She says there isn’t even a Live Video option in her Preferences. Is this option only there if AIM detects a webcam? Even if she doesn’t have a cam, shouldn’t I be able to broadcast my cam image to her?
May 23, 2004 at 4:40 am #79367f0rbezMemberNo its always there. Maybe its not really 5.5 that she has.
