ParticipantQuote:quote:Originally posted by BrdMc3ok so does anyone know like when you go to a site like http://www.aimthings.com they have affiliates and instead of http://www.blabla.com its like a picture how do i add my links like that like i want to add http://www.aimthings.com ….how do i make it come up like that?
Quote:quote:Originally posted by DJHyperbyteAlthough you may not like this answer, I strongly suggest you take a good HTML tutorial. HTML isn’t hard to learn and once you master it well enough, you will be able to create much better and faster websites.
Good luck!
yeah easier said than done, trust me i know… i taught myself html from various sources, and although its not hard to pick up, it takes a while to figure out what does what. BrdMc3, i agree with DJHyperbyte that it would be good for you to try learning some extra HTML, since most of it isnt too difficult. but being the benevolent guy that i am, this would be the code you’ll need.
but i’m not just gonna give you the code like that; here’s what it means (and sorry if i insult your intelligence on this one)…
a href=”…” is the actual link
target=”_blank” opens the link in a new window when they click it
title=”AIMThings.com” displays a tooltip box when they mouseover the link
img src=”…” is the url of the image you want to use
height=XX width=YY are the dimensions of your picture (obviously replace the XX and YY with the dimensions), which you can find in almost any graphics editing program
alt=”Description” is the description of your picture, in case it doesnt load for someone, or they have pictures turned off.
border=0 removes the annoying blue border around an image link… MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THIS!
and finally ends the link altogetherAugust 28, 2003 at 3:12 am #56868BrdMc3

The general page builder creates a website that is slow, ugly and incompatible with most browsers. Need I say more? 🙂

MemberQuote:quote:pretty good site, but i have a recommendation as a web designer. keep in mind this is only my suggestion, my opinion, whatever. the links on your site are set to expand to 120% of the original text (i checked your stylesheet)… this makes it really hard to get to some of the links, mostly the long ones that then wordwrap to the next line. mainly on the side navigation bar… or under the “new authors needed” news post. it jumps to the next line, meaning your cursor isnt over a link anymore. so you move the mouse to get to where the link is now, and it jumps back to its original position…Thanks TigerBlade for the input on my site. I did notice that when I changed the style sheet, but just never got around to changing it back. I have it fixed now, and I appreciate any constructive critisism I can get. After all I’d like the site to look good and be easy to navigate.
To answer your question BrdMc3 on the free domain name. Some web hosts offer free domains when you pay for a certain level of hosting from them. It costs around $120(approx) a year to register a domain name. And what they do in that case is pay for the registration for you, provided that you pay for a certain level of service. Also usually they only pay for the first year of registration, I don’t believe they pay anything other than the cost to register the domain name for the first year, as it is an annual registration to keep the domain.
For those that are looking to learn HTML, or webdesign, there are several websites that offer free tutorials, and help. Whether you know nothing about HTML or are an advanced webdesigner there’s something out there for you.
http://htmlgoodies.com
This is a good site for tutorials on html, and the site I used when I was learning.
http://hotwired.lycos.com/webmonkey/
http://www.htmlhelp.com
http://webreference.com
Do a simple search on google’s search engine for “html tutorials” and you will get a large list so you can decide for yourself which tutorials to use.The way I learned HTML was with a HTML 4.0 book and windows notepad. If you really want to learn the HTML code language and retain it, I suggest putting down your nice webpage builders like: FrontPage, and sit down and work with the actual code. Once you get some practice, it won’t be much more difficult than writing a post on this bulletin board.
Also here’s another tip: copy, and paste makes inserting code into your page alot easier.

Ouch $120/yr? Thats ridiculous. Especially if that’s U.S. funds. I currently use http://www.doteasy.com for basic hosting, it provides basic free hosting with the registration of a domain name. A “.com” Domain name costs $25/yr US. It’s great as long as you don’t need any back-end support.

MemberRe: Free Domain
http://www.dot.tk is one of the best free domain services, they provide you a free yourdomain.tk domain and only ask for one pop-up, thats all.

MemberOk well I stand corrected on the domain registration fees. It’s been a while since I price shopped for a domain name online. That was however the price to register a domain name at some point in recent past. I’m glad to see that the price has been steadily decreasing. This shows progress on the world wide web.

Tried it and it just shows up as text. Need help!

Participantalthough it’s odd, even though the upgrade “broke” that post, it should have still worked, since it just displayed the < and > as their HTML equivalents.

MemberTigerblade: The whole idea behind HTML entities is to write certain characters without them having a special ‘meaning’ for the markup language itself. For example, if you put “This is bold” in a HTML document, the text will appear bold. If you put “This is bold” in a HTML document, the HTML code will appear literally in the document since the browser won’t detect it as being actual HTML code, it will just display it as normal text.
