I am trying to connect webcams with a relative in Russia, while using MSN Messenger. We have not been able to get it to work. Here is what we have done.
They are running XP and I have Windows ME. We have both downloaded MSN Messenger 5.0 and the Webcam for MSN Messenger by Logitech add-on. We have been able to connect with voice with no problem.
However, when I invite them for video by clicking on “Webcam….”, I get an error message that says, “user you invited does not have Webcam for MSN Messenger installed or it is disabled”.
When they try to invite me for video, I click on “accept” and I get the error message, “you can not accept this request, because you must be running Windows XP”.
In addition, we have tried to use Netmeeting through MSN messenger. We both get the Netmeeting window to pop up, but we both can only see our own video, the other screen is black and no voice.
Any ideas?April 26, 2003 at 2:57 am #63338ChelcMemberNetmeeting doesnt work very well for me…. but what usually works is when you call the person.. you get their IP number and then press the call button and then all your relative has to do is accept the call and then it should work… so hopefully i helped you 🙂

May 6, 2003 at 12:05 am #63337DJHyperbyteMemberI often see the question “What is my IP” asked in chatrooms, web forums and real life (yes, I do have one ;)).
So I wrote a very simple PHP script to show you your IP. If you want the source of this script you can e-mail me using the link above this post, although every average PHP scripter will be able to make this.
