MemberHi I was just wondering if anyone else was having this problem, or if anyone knows a way to fix it.
when I start my cam its works fine for about 3 mins then it freezes. then all the time i’m using it it’s freezing and unfreezing-really annoying! I have a (wirleless) broadband connection, so I dont think its anything to do with the internet speeds.
Any soloutions?

MemberSounds to me like your driver for the cam is screwed up, or you’ve got a slow CPU.

MemberMy online b/f has the same problem with his cam. We’re both using the latest version of YIM on WinXP (mine’s Pro, his is Home). His webcam works fine over MSNM 6.2, but looks crappy and freezes in YIM. We can’t access supermode half the time either. Other times it works fine. Yahoo needs to make improvements.

MemberAt least i’m not the only one! I was suggesting that to my friends when I used cam last time that we should complain to Yahoo about the cams! I get that sometimes with the super mode. It wil say its ‘unavailable’ but then a whle later it will start – weird
I wish there was a way to stop it freezing though.July 26, 2004 at 4:20 am #41191EliteNick
MemberWell, I wouldn’t know about the Super webcam feature, because I’m on 56k, but I can say that it sounds to me it is a problem in the new messenger that Yahoo! hasn’t adressed. Oh, and don’t bother complaining to Yahoo!. All you will get is an auto-response. At least that’s from my experience.

Memberwe have been having the same problems and I think it is yahoo servers are just getting overloaded at times I am running a p-4 2.4 1.2gig ram win xp home and still have this problem so I know it is not on my end!:D

MemberI’m having the same problem… My webcam on my laptop (w2k) works fine… My desktop (xp home) freezes shortly after startup, then when I unplug the camera, restart messenger, and plug the camera back in Messenger says “no camera found”. I’ve tried 3 different cameras, all work fine on the laptop, all have the same glich on the desktop. Note: all cameras work fine with Microsoft NetMeeting. The problem is only with Yahoo Messenger on the desktop running XP home. VERY FRUSTRATING.

MemberI have win XP Home too, sounds like there could be a range of reasons why the cam is freezing. I aint used mine in a couple of days now so i’ll see what happens if I unplug and restart next time.

KeymasterIt is a problem with Yahoo itself and it is nothing new. Yahoo is a slow service and is not rich. Just try watching videos online on the Yahoo channel, for example. Their servers also have problems and wc suffers freezing and slowdown. I have got that happening too many times in the past and others have as well who I have talked to when we have shown each other wc. It is not a 9.0 problem. It is the service Yahoo itself. Microsoft doesn’t have such a problem with that nearly as much because it is a rich company that can afford faster connection media (maybe more fiber optic on their network to relieve bandwidth slowdown) and better programs, and probably has better employees who are more technical.
All I can say is deal with it or use MSN. There is nothing you can do about it. Maybe in 10 years when high tech is cheaper or Yahoo gets richer will the slowdown be a thing of the past in Yahoo. Top speed in Yahoo even with DSL on both ends is 3 frames a second with the wc window normal size (a limit of the Yahoo Messenger program itself; on purpose, I’m sure, to limit bandwidth so the servers don’t take more than they can handle is the most logical reason). Actually, I heard that the difference between wc and super wc is that super wc is peer to peer and the normal wc goes through a Yahoo server on its way to your contact. So peer to peer is much faster.
Another thing is it probably won’t make a difference if you contact Yahoo. They have a habit of not caring what we think and not changing things despite the fact that they get complaints from Yahoo users, according to what I have read about on the forum. It is a free service after all.
