MemberHi,
I have
1) Netgear MR814V2 wireless router.
2) Creative Webcam NX.The problem is that I am not able to use the webcam through the wireless router – when I use it in wireless configuration. I get the error message “Network Error while connecting to server”
If I connect the comp directly to the router the webcam works fine.
I tried the following without any success.
1) enable the port 5100 in my router and the windows XP firewall.
2) enable port 5100 in my router and disable windows XP firewall. Can anybdy suggest a solution to this problem.
Thanks in advance

MemberEnabled the following ports in my router.
5101,
5050,
5051,
5000,
5100 (as given in yahoo webcam help),
80But am still not able to broadcast my webcam …it still gives me “”Network Error while connecting to server”
It is very strange since I am able to broadcast if I connect the computer directly to the wireless router(with the USB cable).
Help please !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

MemberI have the same problem, I am using a Motorola Surfboard modem and and linksys WRT55AG wireless router, but I am connecting to the router through Ethernet cable, not through wireless.
I have turned my firewall off and on, enabled the ports, and tired versions 5.6 and 6.0
Maybe 1 out of 100 times it works, it’s highly random though

MemberMotorola Surfboard modem as in SBG900? I am also recieving that error and have a motorola…. using XP Media Center edition… I have went through the trouble of uninstalling all firewalls/disabling them… and everything else to fix this problem… and I still haven’t come across it but I been looking at it on my end and yahoo’s end… and my isp’s end… which are all working… it is the point it leaves the computer and hits that modem… I wonder if the other people with the problem also have that kind of modem…

MemberContacted Motorola Support asking them to test the surfboard model to see if it has issues dealing with webcam support… Should get an answer in a few days…

MemberI been trying to fix that network error for the last 5 days… so I have tried a lot… called ISP(they do not do any blocking for me anyways), Disabled all firewalls, reinstalled messenger, downloaded some update files for yahelite supposedly to fix webcam issues, did a destructive recovery on OS and started again to see if it was some sort of faulty setup for network… this time taking extra time setting up network and drivers and everything about the computer…
All I can say is contact yahoo support for Network Error problem with webcams… I have and if enough people bug them about it they will issue a fix or a work around for people suffering from the problem, since Voice works and everything else works in yahoo messenger…

MemberSolution…. from the motorola tech support people… they walked me through a few solutions I already tried which didn’t work and 1 that did work which involved changing the Internet Protocol Settings…
go to control pannel and network connection, then double click local area connection, go into properties and into Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) properties… and under where it says Obtain DNS address automatically, click Use the following DNS address… and manually enter your dns addresses, once you have manually entered the numbers in and click close… retry using webcam and it should work.

MemberI too have a motorola SBG900 Wireless Surboard Gateway Cable modem and I have yet been able to connect to webcams! I have done everything with firewalls and the modem options with no progress. I see that I’m not alone! If/when someone makes progress on this, please post it so we all can get on with our lives! 🙂

MemberI am connected to the internet through an ethernet cable thats connect to a Linksys Wireless G-Cable Gateway (model #WCG200-CC)
Since we connected through Comcast Cable for our “high speed internet” i’ve only been able to get my cam to connect 2 times, and my friends camera twice. I continously recieve the “Network error” message, so I contacted Yahoo! about the problem…
As usual, they just couldn’t seem to figure out what the problem was. They told me to go through all the basics… turning off my windows firewall, testing it on the Yahoo! Web cam help site, blah blah blah… It’s still not working…
So I contacted Comcast, and of course (never would of guessed this one) they had no clue what was causing! They say that they don’t have any firewalls or anything built in. The last tech I talked to said that apparently there was something inside of my cable modem that was blocking the port, and he walked me through a manual step-by-step process to open up TCP port 5100 for the web cam service… all of my Windows XP firewalls were turned off… all of my anti-virus protectors were off… EVERYTHING was off… and still, no good.
Apparently I’m not the only one complaining, so are hundreds of other people… But he said that Comcast wasn’t sure what the problem was, which means they don’t know the first thing about fixing it… or at least this guy didn’t.
He told me to try using MSN or AOL…But with MSN, if someone on your buddy list is not online, you can’t even see if it will connect… I only have 4 people on my friends list there because I never use it, so it’s useless to see if it works… and with AOL, unless the person you are talking to is using the very latest version of AOL or AIM, as well as running Windows XP, you’re out of luck..it won’t let you connect with them.
I’m so frustrated by all of this… and I feel like I’m completely out of options… Do you think that If I went to Wal-mart and bought my own Linksys, I would have the same problem? They say it’s in my router, modem, gateway, whatever you want to call it… so a seperate box might help??
Probably not, after all, I’d still be using their service…
Any suggestions?
Misty

MemberOk… well after I just set here and typed that really long post.. I done some reasearch and looked over all of the previous posts…
Don’t ask my why I decided to try this, but I did…. and since I did.. I’ve disconnected and re-connected my cam several times… I’ll connect it.. and then dis-connect… let it set for 5 or 10 minutes and try it again. (Normally after the first dis-connect, it’s gone again for several days)
Since I’m on comcast I went in to the set up site for the server… where you can open up your port configurations and add computers to ur DMZ list…
Once there, My ORIGINAL settings were as follows:
Application Name: Yahoo
Port Range: 5100 to 5100
Protocol: TCP
IP Address: 192.168.0.10
Enable: YesAfter looking through several sites and trying a million different things, I got the idea to just throw out some numbers, starting with less, and ending with more, then my original port range had listed…
So I changed the 5100 to 5100 to 5000 to 5200 …
I applied the changes, opened up my Yahoo Messenger, Started my cam and it hasn’t stopped working yet… (crossing fingers and praying I don’t have to make another post saying that it’s not working);)
So if any of you guys read this, I really hope it works…. Maybe changing the ports to those ranges opened up just enough to allow what u need to go through… Let me know if it helps anyone else

MemberI had posted this really long back, was really surprised to find a reply now 😀
Anyways , I was able to fix this problem at that time.
What I did was :
I check my TCP IP settings and found that there are a DNS server specified there… I changed it and made it “obtain DNS server automatically”never had the same problem again 😀
😀
Anyways – thanks for all the reponses.. this forum rocks !!

MemberHmm. I hope opening those extra ports doesn’t impose a security threat. I suggest doing that while you’re on webcam, then when you’re done disabling the ports until you get on again (annoying but more secure nontheless hopefully)
I, too have a Motorola SBG900 or whatever the hell it’s called. It must be something with them.

MemberFor what it’s worth….
I had problems connecting to the Yahoo webcam server similar to those mentioned earlier in this thread. It’s now working after making two changes (I don’t know which fixed the problem and haven’t done the backwards troubleshooting yet to figure it out). After doing all the personal firewall disabling, Windows firewall disabling, port forwarding, uninstall/reinstall stuff listed everywhere without any success, I tried Misty’s advice earlier in this thread and it’s now working. Rather than limit port forwarding to only port 5100, I opened the range a bit wider (5000-5200). I also specified my IP and DNS connection as discussed earlier in this thread instead of the “obtain IP address automatically” and “obtain DNS automatically” settings. You can google “DNS settings” and find the primary and secondary settings for your ISP.
Understand that there is risk involved in opening your ports this way….but it solved my problem in this instance.

MemberI was having the similar issue as all you guys. Here is what I did
In the wireless router admin page you need to change the firewall settings as motorola blocks port 5100 by default
Click on the firewall settings and select the Firewall policy as “Custom” and click apply.
Now click on the advanced link at the top ( right below the Policy tab), you would see a scrolling window within the page. Scroll down to the bottom of this window and select Policy template as Medium and hit apply ( it would ask you for some confirmation, click Yes )
Now add a New Filter Entry in the same window ( at the very top )
Port Id : Yahoo cam
Enable : Yes
Allowed Protocol: IP
Port Range : 5100 – 5100
Allow Inbound : Yes
Allow Outbound : YesClick on Add button.
You are good to go 🙂
Cheers
