hey, I rescently was granted unlimited storage in an ftp site and I was wondering if I could make a html document and store it there so when I veiw it online it would be a website, is this possable? if so how?
May 12, 2004 at 8:33 am #45266DJHyperbyteMemberThis is possible if there is also a webserver on the computer running the FTP server. You should ask the system administrator of the machine that the FTP server is on.

You don’t get what?
DJ is simply asking if there is a link you can use to access the files over HTTP. Meaning http://whatever/you/ instead of ftp://user:pwd@server.
May 13, 2004 at 1:27 am #45273ys8er2323Memberyea there is
May 13, 2004 at 1:32 am #45268DavidParticipantthen what is your question? You upload a *.htm document and link to do with the HTTP URL.
May 13, 2004 at 1:49 am #45274ys8er2323Memberi dont know how to do it, is there somewhere that tells me?
May 13, 2004 at 2:00 am #45269DavidParticipantdo what? Upload a file via FTP or create an HTML document?

May 13, 2004 at 2:18 am #45271TigerbladeParticipantto create an html document, all you need is Notepad or some text editor, unless you want to go with a full out HTML editor (i use HTML-Kit)… you’ll probably want to check out how to write HTML at w3.org or HTMLGoodies.com…
just save it as a .htm file (change file type to all files in the save as dialog box) if you’re using a text editorMay 13, 2004 at 2:32 am #45267DavidParticipantTo upload files via FTP, you need an FTP client.
ON Windows you can use Internet Explorer, but its unstable…
I prefer SmartFTP, http://www.smartftp.com Just install, and enter in your login data, then transferring files is easy, it’s drag n’ drop.
May 13, 2004 at 7:03 am #45265DJHyperbyteMemberOr, like I said, ask the system administrator. They can answer your question best as it’s their system.
May 17, 2004 at 2:34 am #45277SpikeMemberIf you have no complete idea how to make an HTML document, I can help you there. If you would like me to do it for you, or if you would rather I teach you some basics, either or is fine. If you want to see the power of HTML, check out my site at http://webroadmap.i8.com. It was created entirely out of HTML code, and just a hint of JavaScript. And as far as the FTP is, go to http://freeware.aceftp.com/ and download AceFTP 3. It is one of the best FTP’s out there.
May 17, 2004 at 9:52 am #45264DJHyperbyteMemberspike223, you have not provided anything useful to this thread. Helping ys8er2323 in private with his website provides nothing for the rest of the forum users. Instead, write a tutorial on HTML and post it. 🙂
May 25, 2004 at 4:32 am #45272ys8er2323MemberEDIT: I got it working, I now have a movie in there, check it out.
