Leetspeak was first used by gamers. The “leet” is short for elite, as in “we’re better than you!
“Personally, I think it evolved as someone spent too much time online, got bored, and got a giggle out of annoying people with it.

Very cleva…i looked down to the buttom pile of mess and it meant NUFFIN to me, but eventually i saw a small resemblence to real letters and was able to understand exactly! i think ill give the whoe leet speak a miss tho!
