Did you guys check it out? What do you think?
Yahoo! Messenger 9 Beta (sorry, can’t post link due to forum rules :|)I for one was hoping for some tabbed chat but… meh…
October 30, 2007 at 7:29 pm #165091mfenechMemberMore fluff and a wardrobe change, nothing substantial or new. Just like with version 8.
October 31, 2007 at 3:09 am #165088VvWolverinevVParticipantSooo weak for a new version, and on top of that, they have a lot of polishing to do before they can even bring it out of beta 🙁 Very disappointing.
October 31, 2007 at 12:10 pm #165093Doris KenneyParticipantWell I must say, I wasn’t all that impressed either. Compact view of the contact list is nice, but other than that I’m not seeing any real improvements.
To be fair, I just downloaded it this morning, so I’ve not given the tires a real kicking yet. But looks more like surface changes, not anything terribly useful.

So i never got the chance to look into it.
October 31, 2007 at 11:13 pm #165077Jeff HesterKeymasterI like the features described in our cover story: https://bigblueball.com/forums/showthread.php?t=41400
but I haven’t put my hands on it yet to really test it.
October 31, 2007 at 11:56 pm #165094Doris KenneyParticipantOh I’ve found bugs already. We discovered issues in 1-1 calls, where only one person has mute, hold, and end call. If the person without them closes the window? Guess what!! The call is still open and live on both ends. Not real good when you have no way to mute ur mic or hang up. And the sound quality is hollow at best.
We were unable to test voice conference due to what I’m hoping were server issues, but that remains to be seen.
I’m even less impressed than I was this morning.
-Doris-November 1, 2007 at 2:12 pm #165083imported_Ven0mMemberI’ve found a LOT of issues, and have began reporting them to Yahoo via their Blog and the feedback forms. 🙂
November 2, 2007 at 1:24 am #165090PhilipModeratorYes, it’s buggy. For instance, no display pictures available in chat windows, no IM environments, can’t change the fonts (it reverts back), etc. Yahoo seems to be rushing in order to bring out THE latest version of its IM. Perhaps it could learn a thing or two from Microsoft, who won’t be bringing out WLM9 until next year (at least that’s what I heard).
P/S Venom, nice to see you back posting. Hope everything’s OK now.
November 2, 2007 at 2:49 pm #165078Jeff HesterKeymasterI think everyone should keep in mind that this IS a “beta” version of Yahoo Messenger we’re talking about. BETA means “expect bugs.” It means “not ready for general use.”
November 2, 2007 at 8:58 pm #165092ratsMemberit also means “this is basically what you’ll get”
November 2, 2007 at 9:49 pm #165095Doris KenneyParticipantPerhaps I’ve been spoiled with my beta experiences with WLM. I’ve had a few very minor issues with theirs, but nothing like what I’m seeing in Yahoo. There’s been such an outcry over the delays in the deployment of this beta, and the issues with Vista and the old versions, that it may well be they were virtually forced to put it out for public used earlier than they should have.
Does anyone know if there’s a blog or page with “known issues” like WLM has?

hey dermot do you have mcafee security i uninstalled it then downloaded messenger upon reinstalling mcafee it stopped working so i tried again and just downloaded the virus part of mcafee and it worked fine i think it has to do with norton being installed with messy from what i heard
November 3, 2007 at 12:18 pm #165084imported_Ven0mMemberI will say this, it’s more stable than v8.1 in my opinion. I believe v8.1 has just as many bugs, if not more than v9.0 beta. I really hope they address them though. =)

It’s generally recognized among people who know that AVG free and Zonealarm are better choices 😉
