March 31, 2007 at 4:08 am #159819mfenechMemberCan you add a little context to this, please?
March 31, 2007 at 8:11 am #159818codedParticipantMy guess is slimnshady247 is referring to chat room drama. In particular it sounds like something a “booter” would say.
One reason why I stopped frequenting the chat rooms. A lot of the users are just f***ed up. It was unbearable for me long before the spam bots became a problem.
Every script kiddie (and there sure seemed to be a ton of ’em) with fantasies of dominance and power tried booting or disrupting a room in some fashion or another. Even among “regulars,” a mere difference of opinion on a topic seems to result in one party trying to boot another, and everything turns into a perpetual script kiddie troll-fest. The disappointing thing is that this behavior was not limited to any specific age group.
I don’t even want to get started on the socially inept losers who take time and money to create and maintain those generic PHP-Nuke booter sites… and those rap songs about booting they have, wow, just wow, it is extremely pathetic.
However, in all fairness this behaviour is not isolated to Yahoo. It’s a result of people abusing online anonymity. Most people wouldn’t sign their name to the crap they say or do online.
Sorry for ranting, but I’m sure at least a few people share the same sentiments.

Yep, I hear ya there.I just get on yahoo to chat with friends for years.I dont cause trouble with anyone. But still the booter/cracker ppl tend to take my names, mess with the regs in the room and boot them, hit yahoo’s server with a boot exploit so most of the ppl get dissconnected from chat, ect.Age is no factor to this. It’s ranges from all ages. But most are above 18 and still act like they’re 12 using the programs they have on other ppl who cant do anything about it.Yahoo use to be a fun place to go chat with friends and hang out, not anymore. You’re lucky you can stay in a room without being booted half the time.I run Elite and found out they locked 2 of my accounts so my voice would’nt work in my reg room.Soundsl ike fun huh??Lol Well I unlocked my accounts and now have voice again.WOOHOOOO! But sometimes I feel it’s not even worth getting on yahoo anymore. And yeah, alot of ppl have quit using yahoo because of all the booting/hacking/cracking going on.Cant say I blame them.It gets old after awhile. But I guess thats yahoo for ya.Doubt things will ever change but we ca keep wishing i guess.
March 31, 2007 at 4:16 pm #159821z_a_1998MemberI sure wouldn’t want the name.I have chatted in the same room sence it opened way back in the mid 90’s,will I should say I have tried.I’m not to sure I wasn’t in the same room as slim. But now that yahoo is all messed up you can’t get in the room, and once you do the booters start lagging the room, and tring to boot me,but as of yet there lame booters don’t work, they just lag me.So after over 12 years of chatting in yahoo I have moved to PalTalk to chat with my friends. I wish there was someway of locking there booter bots,I have a list of around 1000 of them and I can tell you who everyone of them belong to,they come right out in the room and tell you they are doing it.Even knowing who it is there is nothing anyone can do about it.Yahoo needs to step up and start blocking the booters. The booters boot a name and the name sticks in the room and that makes it full even longer. (OWP)

I’ve hung out in Iowa 1 since 1999.Back then you didn’t have to worry about the booting abd cracking going on.Everyone pretty much got along and we had a good time chatting. But now it’s like, why even bother?I’m not one to leave chat because of ppl’s actions but after awhile it gets pretty old.Just another day in the life of yahoo I guess.Lol
September 4, 2007 at 5:26 am #159824linkinboiMemberi’m new here.n i dont know much about the stuff u guys r talking about.but i have a query.
recently i noticed that, to go into a yahoo chatroom you need to give an identification code(or whatever that is called!).probably to differentiate bots from real users.but i noticed that after logging into a room there aren’t as many users as room list showed. For instance if the list shows Karoake Room 1:(35),once i log in,i see just 3 or 4 users.I tried logging into several rooms n the same thing happens.and everytime i change a room i need to give the identification.can someone tell me why i can’t see all the users as listed in the Room lists?n why do i have to enter the code everytime i have to change a room?
i will appreciate a feedback!September 4, 2007 at 2:57 pm #159817imported_Ven0mMemberIt’s called a captcha, and it doesn’t do much good, since bots are back in large numbers. The lack of users, is probably because of IDs stuck being counted towards the overall room user count. The reason you have to input the code, is to weed out the bots (if it actually still worked).
