they spend money and everything on aim when its free for the users, is there a good explanataion?
They do it so they can read your convos and keep tabs on u…..
That’s probably why they are increasing the advertising within AIM. To get more money from it.

Of course not. Who cares what you talk to your friends about?
AOL does it so they can get more non-AOL users to go over to AOL, and ever wonder why there are ads?? AOL makes money, or breaks even with AIM.
oh alrighty
Here is my take on the subject – AIM is not for non AOL users… (What?… Just keep reading darn you)
AIM is so the AOL users can talk to the outside world with out using some other service… Non AOL users being able to use it is just a perk…
Instant messaging has surpassed web browsing in popularity. Think about it this way; are you more likely to visit http://www.aol.com and see an advertisement there, or open AIM and see an advertisement in your buddy list (and another in your chat window, and so on)?
Considering the millions of people who use AIM and ICQ (another AOL messenger) on a daily basis, that is a helluva lot of eyeballs seeing your advertisements.
Advertisers like that. They pay AOL $$$ for those ads. AOL probably makes a nice profit from AIM, even after all the infrastructure, development and support costs.
