If I have a buddy on my list, and it is showing that they have been idle for 6 hours 2 minutes, what exactly is idle? meaning, they haven’t used instant messenger for 6 hours 2 minutes OR meaning that they have been away from the keyboard for 6 hours 2 minutes.
thanks,
idle means that they haven’t touched their keyboard or mouse for that period of time. if i’m listed as being idle, and then come back and move my mouse to clear away my screensaver, i’ll come back from being idle.
of course, it’s also an option to not display your idle status. to my buddies, i never go idle. it’s not because i’m always at the computer, it’s because i disabled that in my privacy options.
Thanks for the reply. That can only mean one thing then, he must be running 2 computers, because I see him online at forums, but he is showing idle status on his aim screen name.
thanks,
actually, that’s not necessarily true either. i forgot to mention that there are such things as ‘fake idlers’ where a user can run a program (usually just an add-in for AIM) that sets their idle time to be whatever they like. a long time ago, i had one running that let me be idle for 6 hours, even if i’d only been online for 1 second. if someone’s doing that, it’s pretty obvious; if they actually set it to realistically fake being idle, then… who knows.
