i’ll admit i used to hate XP…Bleh! Yes, I hate how simplified XP is, its too “user friendly”!!! I loved the windows 95 layout and way of doing things, but I also like the features on XP. One of the most annoying things about XP is the hidden files option, really annoying while searching. It also hase some plain bad ideas on it. Waaaay to easy to hack too, I don’t feel good using it.

Don’t!!!!!
I’m reverting to Win2000 because XP has been too much of a hassle. WinXP runs on a 2000 platform and adds some ‘features’ that mess everything up!

yeah that’s part of what was confusing, the hidden files and whatnot. plus, Windows Explorer, which i use almost every day, was hidden in a subfolder a couple layers deep. most of the people i’d do impromptu tech support for had NO idea what i was talking about whatsoever, they were just using the “my computer” display, which doesnt help at ALL, especially for moving or copying files. yeah windows is kinda getting better but mostly getting worse… who knows eventually we may all have to switch to macs… hmmmm not a bad idea though…

October 20, 2003 at 7:18 am #58899Dr KimbleParticipantI have windows 3.1, ya know, the ancient version that was really cool about eight years ago. It works better than my tempermental Win 98 too. 🙂
October 25, 2003 at 9:19 pm #58898syntaxMemberI have 3 computers at home. My computer runs Windows Me, my dad’s runs Windows XP, and my mom’s runs Windows NT. I use either Windows 98, Windows 2000 or Windows XP at school depending on which computer lab I’m working in.

November 24, 2003 at 1:51 am #58889Lurking_BiohazardMemberRight now I run XP(Home) on one and 98 on the other.
I also own NT4 ,2kPro, RedHat 9.0, and Mandrake 9.1.I am very strongly considering replacing 98 with one of the Linux distros. Being a Linux noob, which one would be better for me? The main thing I need it to do is run a server. (400 MHz, 198 MB ram)
Or would I be better of using *gasp!* one of the other Windoze versions?

January 4, 2004 at 9:11 pm #58903DoSMemberI Have 2 operating systems on my notepad Win XP Pro / Linux Red Hat 9.0. On my old desktop i used to have Win 2000 Pro. well i thought that XP sucks and all, but i was wrong… xp is a very smooth operating system very nice and user friendly u can just plug anything and use it directly very smooth…. well comparing to linux OS’s as a home user i would definitely recommend Windows as an OS. Windows XP and 2000 rarely crashed and i realy mean rarely its like forcing it to crash, but linux crashed alot when i used graphics. As far as i have known that Windows 2003 server was tested as a server at Harvard.. they tested it as a server with applications running Nonstop attempting to see when will it crash. They where shoked that it lasted for 48hrs proving that it realy is the best server now. Btw Harvard students and Pro’s are the people who update the Linux Kernel, but still every operating system has its bugs.
Cheers
