I have Miranda IM.
I like the auto away feature. I like their plugins,
But is miranda IM #1?
Can someone recommend me to some other messenger with auto away, and plugin’s like a bot?
I like Digsby on Windows, although now when you install you have to read the setup screens very carefully to avoid accidentally accepting installation of numerous annoying adware apps.
One of our former BigBlueBall staffers now works over at dotSyntax (makers of Digsby).
Another popular option is Trillian, and there are a multitude of plug-ins with their paid “Pro” version.
So, there are more plugins for Trillian PRO?
No, actually Trillian Basic (free) does not support plug-ins at all. Only Trillian Pro (paid) supports plug-ins. You can compare the features of the two here.
Nimbuzz actually isn’t too bad for basic multi-client. It has a long way to go as far as plug-ins and extra features though. I’ve actually had it for a couple years now, since it first came out and it is improving. The emphasis of course is on the integration with mobile messaging.
I like that Facebook is integrated directly instead of opening in a separate window. (Last I checked Digsby just launched it for you.)
If you really want to look at the choices there’s a very detailed Wiki with lots of charts to look at.
