Hi, I have been having this problem for quite some time now…Im trying to find which version of msn messenger i am using but when I click on Help-About MSN Messenger to see it says…

So I don’t know if it’s supposed to be like this but there is nothing after the “C” I think there is supposed to be a sentence there.
I have 98SE so I can’t upgrade to a newer version.
The one I have I “think” is 7.0
Also, when someone adds me to their list, the popup thingy doesn’t tell me who want’s to add me. Can anyone help please???Sounds like you do have msn 7.0 and sounds like you need to reinstall your version as it sounds like your missing some kind of script file. I would not uninstall your version but just install another 7.0 on top the one you have. It wont put it on your system twice what it will do is uninstall it’s self or rewrite the old one and add missing files. would like to know how it works out for you.
Thanks for replying williamlee, I reinstalled the same version that I think I have, but it’s still the same. Still no version number and such.
if you know you installed 7.0 then well you know now thats what you have as for the information on that box it should pretty much match mine.

been researching this and I found a site for you. I was unaware that the 7.0 had three different versions check out this site http://www.programchecker.com/File.aspx?Id=2071 mine is the 816 which I have no problems with but this page may prove to be useful to your problem.
well i downloaded the version 7.0 813..so at least i know what that is now.
Im assuming I still have the problem with adding contacts. I have a friend on my list that is using Japanese language or something because when he signs in it will say ???????????? has signed in, but in my list it’s in japanese itself. if that makes any sense.

This may be a problem in my windows update to. There are alot of languages that I have not installed from there. Do I need all of those?
I would load them myself as it shouldnt hurt anything and may even help. I would like you to let me know if the other problem with when you add a new contact is resolved (that is when it happens) if you need to try it out you can add me to your friends list in msn to see if it is working or not. if so mine is wmlee_41@msn.com
Well someone just added me to their list on MSN and it still doesn’t tell me who it is that wants to add me. It just say’s “? Do you want to add….or Do you want to block this person”. So I don’t even know who this person is that added me.

Indeed you can’t use the new Windows Live Messenger Beta since you’re still on Windows 98. You said you have msn 7.0, you can try the 7.5 version though, go here to download it.
Have you checked for any spyware in your pc lately.It may be possible you downloaded a version in another language that your version of Windows does not support (no language pack).

Have you checked for any spyware in your pc lately.You cannot use 7.5 on Windows 98. Version 7.0 is the highest version you can download for that specific operating system. I would suggest that you redownload the files because it seems like a failed installation.

I used the link Stigmata gave, but nothing has changed. First I installed it over the one I had and that didn’t help so I uninstalled and redownloaded it and still nothing.
Also my Adobe Reader is doing this same thing to me. Not showing all of the words.
I’ve checked for spyware and virus’s and I don’t have any of those.
