What Version Should I Use??

Ok, I have been reading a lot about Version 6.0 of Messenger…I have Win XP…when I go to the Microsoft Update Page…I select the O/S…Win XP, but the latest version there is 4.7

My Question is: Should I download Version 6.0 anyway and install it or do I already have all the new features because I have 4.7 for XP ??

Any suggestions??

Sorry, I mean: Windows Messenger 4.7

MSN Messenger 6.0 is beta software, and is different from Windows Messenger. You can install and run both on the same machine, if you want.

You’ll find a better overview of the new features in the beta here.

That all depends on your personal preferance. I personally use MSN Messenger 4.6, simply because I don’t like the somewhat childish looks of Messenger 5.0 and above.

Other than that, I don’t need all the extra features it has. I don’t need to play games online through my instant messenger, I don’t need it to show my picture and phone numbers to the whole world, I don’t need ‘funny’ sounds and emoticons, and I don’t want it to make me coffee either.

I like simple programs. One program for each task. I just want to talk to certain people on MSN Messenger, no more, no less… Yet, once again, it’s just really a matter of preferance.

Thanks for the responses…I really appreciate them! Although, my question was relating more to the technical side of the software. See, I used to be able to Transfer Files…Share Applications…etc when I had Win98…then, I got a new machine with WinXP. At first I was able to do these things with the built-in version of messenger. Once I switched over to a DSL line, however, none of these options work! I don’t know if upgrading will return this functionality. I depended on Remote Assistance to help my customers online…but can no longer do so…I’ve read all about turning the Firewall options off (which I have, by the way), but it doesn’t seem to want to work. Is there any other options anyone could offer!?!

If you are connected directly to the internet (e.g, not behind a network/router), then there is something on your machine which is blocking certain connections. That will generally be a firewall.
