Hello. When I am using Yahoo IM 7.5, and using voice, it sets my microphone level way too low, and people cannot hear me. I can’t raise the level until I shut down Yahoo IM.
Does anyone know how to turn off this automatic level control?
Thanks

July 27, 2006 at 4:28 am #149035NessaParticipantWhen you open Yahoo! Messenger for calls does it ever ask you for set up? That would help. (it always does when i connect a new mic)
If it doesn’t go to Start>Control Panel>Sounds, Speech, and Audio Devices>Sound and Audio Devices>Voice>Test Hardware
After that just follow the wizard and it should set up the mic levels for you! (for anything you use it on)
Hope that helps. Please let us know!

But then when I am on a call, the level “magically” moves lower and lower until it hits bottom, and I can’t manually increase it until yahoo is closed.July 27, 2006 at 7:46 pm #149037dvelez1985Member*omit*
July 27, 2006 at 10:10 pm #149039HowardMemberThe volume control panel is where I watch the microphone level automatically down to zero while I’m talking. I can’t move it back up until Yahoo IM is closed. Then when I open Yahoo and use voice, it quickly slides back down.
What I’m trying to find out is what is fiddling with my mic level, and how do I make it stop.
July 27, 2006 at 10:19 pm #149033OreoMemberThis sounds like a bug to me. Have you tried un-installing and re-installing? Also, I would report this to Yahoo! so they can look into it. You may also want to make sure there is not a slightly newer version (that version MIGHT have that problem resolved).

I had a similar problem years ago with YM, outlined here (and also in the “Comments” there)
Slightly different from what you describe, I guess. Are you certain you have no other program to do with audio in any way, that might be interfering with it ?
And as Oreo says, on principle get the latest version of YM (currently 8.0.0.682) before chasing the problem further.
August 4, 2006 at 5:31 pm #149040the_finalfantasy8Memberactually, that was automatically leveling, but you can turn it off, but the downside is… you voice may be static or annoying… but if you want to, follow these steps;;). double click the speaker icon on taskbar. volume control window will popup. untick the mute on you microphone then go to options then select properties. select the recording then OK. select the Stereo Mix as your recording source… note: lower the volume for this or your voice will be growled. set the volume on the first line only… hope this will help coz i am using this for myself
