I have been looking for a certain CD for about 2 years now. It is a CD from a band called Say Anything and is called: “Baseball”. This is my favorite band and this is a very limited edition of their first-ever album. There were only about 200 copies pressed.
I have been searching ebay for it, and only seen it on there twice. The first time I saw it, it sold for about $300. It has been sold on eBay for over $500. Recently, a listing came up for a “very good” condition copy of Say Anything's album “Baseball” for $250.00. If I only I had that kind of money!!! I thought to myself. It is a personal obsession of mine: checking eBay constantly to see if any copies are up for sale. And if I ever acquired this obsessed-about item, I would frame it and basically worship it daily.
Anyway, this got me thinking. I wonder what other people's item obsessions are? What would other people pay for if they found their favorite “X” on eBay, or at a thrift store?
So I wonder…what are some of your item obsessions that would be priceless if you acquired it? A favorite CD? A favorite Doll? Clock? Comic? What have you been looking for over the years?
I am interested to see what your replies are. 🙂October 25, 2009 at 12:43 pm #175997Jeff HesterKeymaster
That's an interesting obsession. I'm curious where it began.
As for me, I'm not obsessed with acquiring any item, but I am somewhat obsessed with a personal goal — hiking the John Muir Trail next July. It's a 236 mile backpacking trip that will take about 21 days. I did this hike once before back in 1980, so this July will be exactly 30 years later.October 26, 2009 at 2:02 am #176000Jeff wrote:That's an interesting obsession. I'm curious where it began.
A few years ago when I first heard about the band(Say Anything). I can relate this band's songs to my life more than any other, and the instrumentals and song writing are unparalleled to anything else I have heard. So owning this CD, the first CD ever of my favorite band, would mean the world to me. And that's where it began, for me. 🙂Jeff wrote:As for me, I'm not obsessed with acquiring any item, but I am somewhat obsessed with a personal goal — hiking the John Muir Trail next July.
That's interesting Jeff! It looks like it will be a fun expedition. I wish you the best of luck.October 26, 2009 at 4:03 am #176004YahooliganMember

Call it a semi-obsession, if you will. 😉PolarBearNPR wrote:Obsession – and goal for myself… strength in all things.
I think that's a very empowering goal.October 31, 2009 at 9:54 pm #175999RabidKittenParticipant
I know Say Anything. Very nice choice.
But as far as /item/ obsessions, naturally, I have a few. C'mon, like you guys didn't see that coming.
Most of you guys know by now that I dig video games. A few years back, my best pal, Addy, saw me playing Final Fantasy Tactics. He told me to stop settling for second best and he had a game for me to play. A week later, he brought it over; Disgaea. Now, Disgaea is made by Atlus, and they printed a limited amount of the game. The only place you can really find them is in old pawn shops, if you're lucky. I haven't looked on Ebay, but, I think that half the fun is finding them at pawn. It's like a scavenger hunt. Unfortunately, a little over a year ago, Addy died and his parents sold his copy of the game off. Every time I go to an old shop, I have to browse the video games, just in case. Disgaea 2 wasn't nearly as good, as far as storyline.
Also, as far as pawn shop gems, this may come as a shock to some, but I have a very strange draw to the movie Romeo + Juliet by Baz Luhrmann. Yes, the ‘current day' version with Leo and Clair Danes. I don't know why, but I thought that it was a masterful work and it just spoke to me. The picture, the language (naturally), the acting, the imagery. I just loved it. To push it one step further, I /insist/ on buying the VHS copy. I don't know why, but I find it poetic almost that every time I watch it, it kills the tape a little. It makes it precious.
…I also like pretty boxes. ahem. You know…like…chests and such.October 31, 2009 at 10:14 pm #175998November 2, 2009 at 12:44 am #176003Sami wrote:I know Say Anything. Very nice choice.
Yes! Sami, you're the second person I know (other than me) who also knows Say Anything.:)Sami wrote:I have a very strange draw to the movie Romeo + Juliet by Baz Luhrmann. I saw this version in my English class in 9th grade – I thought it was a very good picture.
