And like Dave said, they’re pretty much equal, its a matter of preference.

Bersirc is very configurable in it’s visual aspect, as mIRC isn’t so much. The only things that lack in Bersirc are the scripts.. but ‘meh’ about them right, Dave?! 😀

April 9, 2005 at 8:18 pm #109614MrEggsaladParticipantI use Trillian just because I can be in the BBB chat room and talking on IM with just one program
April 15, 2005 at 11:42 am #109603MorlarkMemberXChat! I’m surprised nobody’s mentioned this one. I used to use mIRC, but when I found XChat I never turned back. I found it to be so much nicer than mIRC, both in terms of how it looks and in how easy it is to configure it. Most of the windows users I know use either XChat or mIRC. I used used to use Trillian as well, but I never really found it very easy to use. I couldn’t even figure out how to get it to auto-join a channel on connect. :S
As for Linux clients I always use irssi. I’ve never tried BitchX, but people have warned me away from it. What’s it like?
August 17, 2005 at 1:58 am #109619LinuxAddictMemberI use Trillian or mIRC if I’m on Windows. And Linux, I use either SIRC or X-Chat.
August 17, 2005 at 3:04 am #109595Jeff HesterKeymasterI too had to vote for other as Bersirc wasn’t one of the options.
August 17, 2005 at 3:37 am #109602TigerbladeParticipantBersirc is a rather sexy client (as Detn8r and Dave both agreed when they tried it and got me using it), but it’s hard to write scripts for… even fairly simple ones. mIRC is much easier to use scripts with, and it can be customized just as much as Bersirc. The only annoying thing is the registration prompt every time…
August 17, 2005 at 3:49 am #109601DavidParticipantI generally use mIRC on Windows, and BitchX or xchat on Linux. As for Bersirc, it seemed okay when I first got it, but it lacked a lot of basic graphical functionality, like (# for the current channel), though the scripting interface for mIRC is much more powerful than Bersirc’s undocumented Object-Based Pascal. (Pascal sucks anyway, mIRC is a C++-type syntax).

August 19, 2005 at 10:13 pm #109596Jeff HesterKeymasterfor windows i usually just login to my shell account where i use irssi (which is a great text based client). if for some reason i can’t do that (mostly for servers requiring ident) i use mIRC. although i hate how it’s not a free (as in speech) client.
