I’ve been playing around with the AIM SDK for the past day, and I decided to finally recreate the popular WhosOnline application.
What is WhosOnline?
WhosOnline is a program that you can run that will show you a list of users which are invisible. WhosOnline can detect not only users which switch their status to invisible, but also those which sign in as invisible. What AIM version is WhosOnline compatible with?
Any! WhosOnline is stand-alone, but can be run the screen name you normally login in with, at the same time. WhosOnline will make its own connection to the AIM network and will not make any changes to your profile or send/receive any IMs.What are the requirements for WhosOnline?
WhosOnline requires the Microsoft .NET Framework version 2.0, which is included with Windows Vista. If you are running Windows 2000/XP, you will need to download it here, or by using Windows Update. Will there be a Mac/Linux compatible version?
I do currently also have a Java version, which would run on both OSX and Linux, but it is not complete.Screenshots

August 12, 2007 at 6:44 pm #161851DavidParticipantI’ve noted this issue and am looking into it, there is something strange happening with the API. I will report back.
And it’s good to see you around, man. 🙂

August 16, 2007 at 3:51 pm #161852DavidParticipantAOL has made a change to how data is handled for a part of AIM. I think I can still make this work, but I need to investigate farther. This is unlikely to happen for the next few days, as I’m leaving Cali and flying back to the east.
August 16, 2007 at 9:59 pm #161858CodyMemberDude Dave man… this is some good stuff.
Will you release the source for the Java version?
I need it for my Ubuntu. LOLOLOLJanuary 8, 2008 at 3:13 am #161859xjepherzxMemberis this thing even working properly? i have one of my secondary accounts on my list that im sure is off line, but whosonline says that that account is logged in as invisible. theres also alot of my buddies who im sure are offline yet are invisible as well……
January 8, 2008 at 6:18 am #161853DavidParticipantAOL patched the method I was using (again). WhosOnline is dead for good.
