:new: Why? Why? Why lately have there been so many links sent around MSN Messenger saying to download this MSN Block Checker. I clicked one and ended up searching the web for help, putting my computer in safe mode, removing it from the registry, and ending the process, and everything.
It was so annoying, even though I ran the Add/remove programs uninstaller, it was still there in C:/Program Files/Block Checker/ and when I clicked delete it said “Access Denied — In use”, and when I ended the process it started up again.
After a while I got rid of it, but now I want to know, why are there so many links going around like that? I’ve noticed a lot talked about on this forum?
Why? :crying:
people like to make money. capitalism wins. one way to make money is through spam. i’m assumeing this is what this program does. it either serves you ads, sends ads, or tries to steal your bank account/credit card/other financial information. if you don’t click on any links you wont get any dangerous files on your system (unless of course you are not sufficiently protected). you should keep up to date with Windows Update. keep your anti-virus (avast!, AVG) up-to-date and have a good firewall (ZoneAlarm, Sygate). you should also use a browser that is less dangerous. i suggest that you use Firefox if you don’t already.
It spreads very quickly, one user downloads and installs it, it tells all their online contacts to download and install it (without the users permission, I think). Those that do install it, start the process over again, and it continues to spread like a plague! :S
That’s correct, I had one such link sent to me the other day. I believe the same is also true of SmileyCentral.
Yeah, SmileyCentral sends itself along with MSN Block Checker.
