then why does it matter if u type in all caps if u r not using emphasizing?
January 6, 2004 at 10:50 pm #56440Grim ReaperMemberit makes you look like you’re shouting at everybody like mentioned at the beginning of this thread…if the light on your keyboard for caps lock is on just hit the caps lock key so that the light is off…that’s all you got to do…it’s not difficult.
January 7, 2004 at 12:37 am #56473Flaming_GunsMemberScientists actually found through studies that it’s harder for the human brain to comprehend UPPERCASE LETTERS than lowercase letters. i really believe that statement. Watch: Which is easier to read?
HEY EVERYBODY I AM GOING TO THE UROLOGIST TODAY
hey everybody i am going to the urologist today
lowercase is easier for sure.
January 14, 2004 at 4:52 pm #56449FimusMemberI don’t like all caps, and I use shorthand in IM.
February 28, 2004 at 1:19 am #56472Flaming_GunsMemberI prefer typing normally, but sometimes i’ll use the whole “c ya” thing, as well as the notorious “lol”.
March 1, 2004 at 1:56 am #56482kurbside517MemberWell, I personally agree with what most of you had to say on this topic.Shorthand and ALL CAPS are appropriate only some of the time. However, not too many people are going to be reading this because the “heat of the discussion” if you can call it that , happened almost half a year before I posted this.Anyway good points if anyone who posted something on this topic before decides to check back

If cap letters are harder to read is that why they use it in the contracts for like cell phones and stuff for maybe you miss or word and they out smart you? (just a thought)
June 3, 2004 at 3:29 am #56434detn8rParticipantMy view on this? I find it completly insulting if I was a new member directed to a forum entitled being a moron for being a newbie and possibly not knowing how a forum works.
When I first registered here, I knew absolutly nothing about forums. I didn’t even know that there was forums exsisting outside the MSN Messenger one. All I have to say is lighten up. We were all new at one point. I don’t see how anyone could get pissed if they seen a topic THAT LOOKED LIKE THIS LOL. I mean, it’s not that big of a deal, and because it’s listed in the forum rules, it seems people like to go out of their ways to correct them. Do ‘them’ a favor, and answer their question to the best of your ability, and leave the moderation up to moderators.Maybe if this ‘problem’ IS that big of a problem, then maybe Snitz needs someone to program something were it removes all caps in thread titles, and excessive use of “!”. I know Invision Power Board uses it, and it’s quite handy.
In the end, as I said, if I was called a moron for making a thread with capitals because I was 13, and use chat rooms, where periods are not needed, I would seriously be insulted, especially in front of 14000+ members, and thousands of people in traffic.

Sorry but I would have to say that DJ is right, how much harder is it to type “to” instead of “2”? It is much better to learn correct typing skills now then to have them all messed up later on in life. I also know that reading “2” instead of “to” is much harder, just like using all CAPS. But Jeff says that he will save slang for his next rant, lets get back to the topic. Why would any one want to type in all CAPS in the first place? We all know it is harder to read, and it is just plain ugly.
My personal experiences are as follows. I just find all caps extremly difficult to read. Most of the time when I’ve encountered them they have come from a newbie and/or someone who works in an office in a terminal program that requires all caps (and they don’t know how the rest of the world despises them.
Now when it comes to chat abbreviations, honesstly then don’t bother me at all. It’s just part of the culture of the net. I’ve been on the internet since 1994 and way back then one of the first things I leared were chat/email/newsgroup/etc abbrevations. I tend to limt thier use in emails or newsgroup and forum posts, but sometimes it’s just easier to express yourself that way (e.g. “LOL”). The same goes for emoticons. If you spend a LOT of time chatting it’s honestly just a much esier way to communicate and frankly I only have problems with 2% of the online population when it comes to this. I will say that there re some less common ones I don’t use at all simply because they aren’t well known. If you do a search you’ll find dozens of sites with very extensive lists of such abbreviatons.
Oh well, it seems my opinion is alwyas at odds with everyone. I will say that I do consider msyself quite tech saavy however…
June 6, 2004 at 1:23 am #56485AragornsQueen01ParticipantI hate all caps unless I really am shouting. I use the abbrievations when I am IMing, but I try not to use them in forums or emails-like angrykeyboarrd said. They have become sort of a habbit though and sometimes they come out on accident, and sometimes I accidentlly hit the caps button.
June 6, 2004 at 12:02 pm #56486bluntbrainMemberEven I don’t like caps… but some times they are really helpful..
June 11, 2004 at 2:53 am #56481AwesomeSauceParticipantI agree with Flaming_Guns, I think it’s very annoying when girls on my contact list sign on and their screen name is like:
