Tagged: hdmi, monitor, secondary display
I have a full HD monitor (1920×1080) and I have been using it with my Dell XPS m1530 laptop (Nvidia GeForce 8600M GT) with an HDMI cable. With this set up, the HD monitor looks perfect and crystal clear with no tweaking whatsoever. I just bought a new laptop, an HP ProBook 4530s (Integrated Intel HD 3000, ATI Radeon HD 6490M) and when I connect my HD monitor to this laptop with the HDMI cable, the monitor looks terrible. Text is fuzzy, the image is skewed, and there is a ridiculous amount of overscan. No changes in settings really make any difference. I have updated all my graphics drivers and this still hasn’t solved the problem. Any ideas as to what I could do to make the HD monitor look better with my new laptop?
This is with the same cable? You might try another cable.
Also, are you running the external display as an extended desktop (i.e. dual screen) or mirroring? What happens if you set it up for single screen display?
Finally, do you still have the old laptop? Make sure it still displays well with the same cable and monitor. That will help isolate the problem to the new laptop.
