MemberI just downloaded Winamp 3 yesterday because I’m tired of the WMP taking up all the space on my screen. Now I’ve downloaded the Evolver skin for Winamp 3, which is really nice, but the “display” is a bit hard to read.
Which is your favorite skin and why?

MemberRoland, winamp 3 is actually a memory hog, read previous posts here on this subject. I suggest you delete ‘3’ and revert to an earlier build and enjoy the difference.
Yes, on one of my computers I run version 3, that particular computer has an excess of memory and a fast processor…. it still sux.:D:DOctober 17, 2003 at 4:19 pm #54342Tigerblade
Participanti second rusty’s thought…. i had 2.91, then one day decided to “upgrade” to 3… BAD move… i promptly switched back to 2.91
if you really wanna keep 3 its up to you though…

KeymasterI agree with rustedtight and tigerblade. I actually stuck with Winamp 3 for almost a full year. I still think the skins for 3 are cooler, but about 1-1/2 months ago I finally reverted back to Winamp 2. It’s MUCH faster loading and uses far less resources.
I agree with you about the display being hard to read, especially if you run at a high resolution. For that reason, I usually use a high-contrast skin. I’m currently using Winmac which I found at MXskinz.com.
I sometimes also switch to double-size (CTRL-D) just to see the display better, then shrink it back down to normal as it plays.

MemberI just had Winamp3 take up 95% of my CPU, meaning nothing worked anymore, and all I was doing was trying to add a playlist [v] So I installed Winamp2.91
Now to get winamp 2.91 to recognize the skin files and I’ll be all set …I need more coffee; .WAL files are for winamp 3 only [v] 😀 It’s working, now I’ll spend most of the evening creating playlists.October 17, 2003 at 11:14 pm #54334Jeff Hester
KeymasterDen8r, how is WinAmp 5 as far as load time and resource utilization?
I really don’t want to mess with an ALPHA version (which is what the link you gave takes you to).

ParticipantWinamp 5 is actually in Beta testing now.
Have a look or download here.
I just installed it (in a seperate folder) and it loads just as fast as Winamp 2.91 on my machine. It is currently using up 8,324 K of resources using the default “modern” skin, but goes down to 1,032 K when I switch back to the “classic” skin with no music playing. It uses approx. 14,188 K using Modern Skin and 3,056 K using Classic Skin, while playing music. Now to see if any plug-ins will work…
