ParticipantSo I just tried downloading the new version of windows live 2009 that came out since they fixed all the bugs. Well when I got done downloading it, it let me sign in and everything and worked really good sept my buddy list [contact list] didn’t show up. I went under options and they were all showing up but when I clicked add to buddy list they didn’t appear on the buddy list. I even saved my list from the 8.5 messenger and tried importing it and nothing happended. I have windows xp service pack 3 and I don’t get why my contact list won’t show up! :crying:

ParticipantHello and welcome to BBB! I’d like to just check one thing with you – is your buddy list completely empty? Or are the contacts just showing as offline all the time? Your contacts are actually stored on the WLM servers so something is obviously not updating quite right.
Do you have any third party programs such as Plus! installed? And, have there been any other problems you may have noticed with WLM?
I’d first try shutting WLM down completely and having it “forget” your login. That means you need to sign out, uncheck the boxes for Remember Me, Remember my Login and Sign in Automatically, then close the program completely by right clicking and choosing Exit on the icon in the system tray.
When you reopen the program, sign in, see if perhaps it repopulates properly when you do a clean start and fresh login where it’s not “remembering” anything.Let me know if that helps.

ParticipantWell, the good news is that they aren’t gone completely. I did some searching and there appears to be a fairly decent number of people with your problem.
I found a thread that suggested following these steps offered in the WLM help files. I will warn you however that some people did not find this solution worked for them.
If you use hotmail as your email, you may need to look at the individual settings of the contacts in hotmail, make sure there is a valid Windows Live ID for each and the box for Use this with Windows Live Messenger is checked. I don’t use hotmail personally so I can’t tell you if this description is accurate of what the fields are labeled. You can read more on this here.
If those don’t work you may want to revert to an older version for now.

MemberIf its a problem with WLM remembering your contacts, aka thinking its got all your contacts and doesn’t need to update from the server… perhaps it would be prudent to try deleting your contact details from your Application Data folder: %Boot Drive%:Documents and SettingsLocal SettingsApplication DataMicrosoftWindows Live Contacts I am not sure if this would have any lasting ramifications however due to not knowing all that much about WLM so you may want to wait for someone more knowledgable to either shoot down my idea or approve it.. It’s just I would not have thought that simply deleting the rememberance of your e-mail would reset your account settings. Because even with that unticked if you insert your username it will revert your colourscheme to the one you chose based on your e-mail.
