MemberI have recently reinstalled XP on my pc and MSN Messenger 6.2
When I log onto the internet I keep getting a prompt to install Windows messenger (which I don’t want)
How do I stop the prompt?[/b]
Have I got to install Windows messenger 4.7 then delete it?July 19, 2004 at 2:40 pm #41483DrGrafenberg
MemberP.S. I tried to insert a screenie of the prompt in my previos post but that didn’t work, why?

MemberWhat does the message you get actually say?
To insert an screenshot into a post, the image you want must be uploaded to an alternative location on the Internet. Try http://www.photobucket.com
Once you have uploaded the image, you then insert the URL to the image in the image tags, [ IMG ] and [ /IMG ]
So you would get:
[ IMG ]Image URL Here[ /IMG ]
The spaces I have left in the image tags should not be there, when inserting an image, do not leave these spaces. I have only left the spaces so that my example shows up in the post.

MemberJust open Windows Messenger, go to the preferences and stop it from loading as soon as the computer starts. Or else just update it, and forget about it. OR just uninstall the silly thing. 🙂

MemberYou can actually disable the Windows Messenger service. Or alternatively, you can uninstall Windows Messenger. Unistalling this will not affect MSN Messenger. For instructions on how to do this, visit this link at Tweak XP:
http://www.tweakxp.com/tweak487.aspx
If you do not want to uninstall it, and you just want to disable it, you can do this:
1) Start > Run
2) Type “services.msc”
3) Navigate to the service called, “Messenger”
4) Double click on it and in the drop down box labelleed “Startup Type” you want to select disabled.Hope that helps.

Memberwell it ried to disable it but that not work 🙁
So I deleted it but… it said there was an error…however it looks like it has gone but…
I think this is what happened last time I did this, and deleting 4.7 fooked up my MSN which stopped letting me use REMOTE & VOICE 🙁 I have not tested for this yet so here’s hoping they still work,
I shall let you know…July 19, 2004 at 8:20 pm #41482MartinBradley
MemberOk well, I’ve used exactly the same procedure as I recommended to you in my previous post, and it didn’t mess up my MSN Messenger or affect it in any way.
If it’s messed up yours, then oops! Sorry!
*EDIT* When you tried to disable it, how did it “not work”? Did you get an error message? What suggested to you that it didn’t work?

Memberok I am a pc noob 😮
MSN chat is ok 🙂
but the Remote assistance is done thru Windows Messenger so as I have deleted it then it’s (now) obvious why I cant use Remote.:o
Sorry! -
