I don’t see anything about windows messenger!
I have an audio problem. Everything works but Audio. I think the prob. may be in my friends. It is new Dell. We have checked all we know to check. The normal stuff with no luck.Thanks
Why not give MSN Messenger a try?
No you don’t, you can use MSN Messenger and Windows Messenger at the same time. However if you still wish to remove Windows Messenger, then here’s how:
Go to Start – Run and type in
‘RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection windir%infmsmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove’ without the quotes.You should get a progress indicator which confirms deletion of the files.

I don’t want to remove Win Mess. I just want to shut it down so it will not be in the way. If you remove it, want it cause other problems?
Ok then sorry, to disable Windows Messenger:
1) Go to Start – Run and type in ‘services.msc’ Click OK.
2) Scroll down the list that pops up until you see the entry named, ‘Messenger’
3) Double click on it, and in the box which pops up, find the drop down menu labelled, ‘Startup Type’.
4) Click the drop down menu and select ‘Disabled’NOTE: You may get a warning asking you for confirmation, it is OK to disable this as you can always enable it later by selecting ‘Automatic’ instead of ‘Disabled’

I know how to disable it there, I don’t want it to be signing in if I install MSN messenger. If I understand correctly, if you remove it, it will cause other problems and you need it for messenger to work properly. Is that correct?
You don’t need Windows Messenger for MSN Messenger to work correctly. I have removed Windows Messenger using the same method as I posted earlier, and my MSN Messenger works fine. Windows Messenger is a different program which comes with Windows XP. Removing Windows Messenger should not cause problems with MSN Messenger, and obviously if Windows Messenger has been removed, it therefore cannot sign in. However MSN Messenger will still be able to sign in and work fully after Windows Messenger has been removed. Sorry the explanation is slightly long winded, hopefully i’ve got it right this time.
