MemberWow basically every game I own is on that list. Stupid Microsoft.
I notice that Style XP and UX Theme Patcher are on that list. Has anyone else had problems with skinning their windows?

MemberThis morning when I got up there was the little balloon saying..New updates are ready to install…so..I click on it to get the info and it says SP2..75MB. I clicked cancel. It stayed on my taskbar. When I was ready I clicked it again and selected download. When I hovered over it, it said 0% downloaded. I went in the kitchen to get some coffee and when I came back it was gone completely. I opened the task manager to see if anything was running and there was nothing there. I went to the windows update page and looked in the installation history section to see if it had been installed…nothing there either. Not sure what happened to it. Very odd. I read an article yesterday that it was being pushed back another week or two. So..not sure what’s going on with it. Anyone else get the update?

ParticipantSP2 sucks ass. it messes up everything, unless you reformat your computer and install it.

MemberLet me try and clear a few things up, going by what I have read on various websites.
Windows XP SP2 for Home Edition is already out and available through automatic updating.
Windows XP SP2 for Professional Edition is obtainable, however it is not yet available from automatic updating. Apparently it will become available on the 26th August.Quote:quote:Originally posted by aznballa161SP2 sucks ass. it messes up everything, unless you reformat your computer and install it.
How do you mean, “messes up everything”? Do you mean simple things such as the Windows Firewall being turned on by default? I imagine this could be simply turned off. Can you give us some examples of how it messes things up please?
It could just be that you haven’t given yourself time to familiarise yourself with the new features in SP2, such as the new security console.
However, I do agree that the long list of programs which are said to possibly encounter problems when running SP2 is far too extensive. The fact that some of Microsoft’s own programs are in that list strikes me as being a bit ridiculous. They should at least be able to get their own programs to be fully compatible with it.
Of course, there are always going to be problems with some applications when installing such an update. But I guess at the end of the day, each machine will respond differently, so you have to judge each case on its merits.
I for one, will be downloading XP SP2 when it becomes available for Professional Edition. I will try and find some links to the various reviews I have read and edit this post with them later.

MemberWell… Sp2 was made for security reasons and it hasn’t been released to the public yet… It has been released to companies however… you should wait until it’s on Windows Update because if you download the whole thing it would probably be over 200MB… with windows update it chooses the things you need only which is about 75MB… I have tried SP2 before in Beta form and everything I had was working perfectly such as Nero and most of the stuff in there… The thing I like about SP2 which is really helpful is the Security Center… The Security Center advises you if you have an antivirus and if it’s updated… It also tells you if your firewall is on or not… Microsoft SP2 is going to be a big release… There has been alot of talk about SP2 being a piece of junk… People have different opininons and well I actually think SP2 is a step forward for Microsoft… Microsoft has actually stepped back soo far that they almost fell off the edge but their actually coming back with SP2….. The great thing is that IE will not have a pop up blocker and I have tried it, it is better than some out there… I don’t know if they fixed the security holes on IE but… They should of with all the security SP2 is getting… SP2 is like another body guard… Well.. hopes this helps… Just too tell you SP2 is going to be a big hit everywhere!
I also guarantee that Microsoft will fix all the problems on SP2… I agree that the list is way too extensive… But sooner or later they will fix it and come out with a way better realease of SP2 maybe it will be a patch… Who knows… SP2 will be a big break through in Microsoft Security… Probably one of the best there will be… SP2 also shortens your list on Add/remove programs… instead of having all those SP1 stuff on it, it will have only one thing what says Windows Service Pack 2… Well I think that’s what it says, haha…

MemberI’ll just update this topic with latest news on Windows XP SP2.
*From TweakXP*
Microsoft sends security update to home PCs[/b]
Microsoft has started to send out its latest major security patch to home PCs–but some people won’t get it for a while.
The first computer owners to get Windows XP Service Pack 2 began receiving it on Wednesday night, Microsoft said. The update is being sent to people who have the automatic update feature turned on in the operating system. But it will take at least a few weeks to deliver the 80-plus megabyte patch to the installed user base, a company representative said on Thursday.
